I'm completely confused. I have a Radias that has no known issues-- I've had it for years. I have never done more than use it as I bought it-- never saved any saved modified sounds. Love the way it sounds now but want to see how it was originally setup too, so I want to save the current setup in a way that I can restore it, then restore the defaults to play...
I understand you can back up the settings, then restore factory settings or other settings. I can't get any software I download to connect this thing to my MacBook Pro. I have actually tried a couple of different MacBooks, one with 10.6.8 another with 10.9.5
Is there a step-by-step guide somewhere? I can't seem to get the Mac to see the Radias using a tested USB connection. I can't see how to back this up, upgrade firmware, etc. I can see that I have firmware v.1.0.7.
Specifically, that screen reads:
SYS : Ver 1.0.7
USR : Ver 1.0.1
PCM : Ver 1.0.1
Suggestions?
Backing up settings?

I got the Radias to update using a Windows 8 machine instead of the Macs, so it is up to System 2.0, but I still cannot see how to back up the sound files to a computer.
I'm searching on-line. I'm reading the Radias Owner's Manual. I just don't see the directions anywhere, and I'm not seeing any menu options.
I can load sound files from a computer that may be able to update the sounds in the Radias, and that is the goal, but not before I backup the existing sounds as they have been saved in the Radias.
I'd really appreciate some tips. Seems like the sort of thing someone would have posted on youtube.

I don't have the software available to me right now, but the general idea is that you want to open a new library in the editor software, sync data FROM the radias, and then save it to a file.
Hope that helps.
I can probably get detailed instructions if necessary.

What you're saying makes complete sense, but I cannot see where to do this. I assume you have to boot the Radias into the mode where the system version shows on the screen, though I have tried it both ways (and no luck)
Seems like the Radias would need to mount as a device on the desktop (like USB drive or a digital camera or whatever) so one could navigate and open-- somewhat like you open a settings file (which seems to work fine), but I don't see anything like that happening.
Honestly, I have yet to see anything on a Mac that makes me think the Radias mounts or is discovered by the computer at all, though I did install the driver (as far as I can tell).
On a PC, I hear a little chime telling me the device is alive, and the updater clearly updated the software from 1.0.7 to 2.0, so obviously the connection works, but as with the Macs, I don't see a way to navigate to the Radias.
It seems like some status on the Radias screen would also appear, but nothing like that happens.
It is probably dirt simple and I'm overlooking some obvious place to do this in the menus, but if you possibly have time to post instructions I'd really appreciate it. Thanks so much!

Nope. None of that. And you don't back up the OS at all. No system files, they are burned into a flash ROM.
You just load up the editor librarian application to and download all the patches and global settings. That's it. That's the only thing you can change about the Radias anyway. It's all serialised over the USB virtual MIDI connection.
It doesn't mount as a filesystem, there are no files.
Make sure you use the editor that is bundled in the 2.0 update. The standalone editor download from the website is for the 1.0 OS so you may lose some parameters features.
By the way, this is a pretty normal method of patch management for most synthesizers.

As is probably pretty obvious, I'm quite new to this business of managing/loading/editing synth sound libraries. I am, however, definitely using the 2.0 Radias Sound Editor application on all three machines. (Both Macs and the [Dell] PC.)
I bought this Radias (used) a number of years ago. I like the sounds on it as it is, and would hate to loose any of these sounds. More importantly, my 12-year-old daughter loves these sounds. She has Asperger’s Syndrome. She is very bright and talented, and she wants to explore more sounds on the Radias, but she does not want to loose the existing sounds which she has played on it for so long either, so if I loose the existing library and the factory restore changes sounds from they way they are now, it may really cause a complicated situation with my daughter. She wants to help me do this. She is quite computer savvy, but unfortunately, she is blind, and therefore has no way to deal with the display on the Radias, or deal with lots of computer software like the editor which is not designed to be accessible, so it really is a complex matter for me.
I don't know how to tell which factory sounds (if any) have been modified. The actual filenames, from the ones I have compared to the list in the manual do appear to be the same, but I believe a number of parameters can be edited and saved on the original sounds, right? The previous owner did quite a lot of recording with the unit and I suspect may have modified some of the sounds. I have no idea how to find out without risking loosing the existing files on the Radias. (I have lost contact with the seller some years ago.) If there were “An Idiot’s Guide to the Radias” I would gladly go and buy it, to solve this problem...
What I'm first trying to do is see how to create an "rdl" file that preserves the existing sound library (I assume this is how one ultimately saves the sound files, correct?) and then we can experiment with the other sound libraries, knowing I can restore what we have now. All I was trying to say before, was if I open up the library on the Radias to load it the same way I load an .rdl file on the computer, I would need to be able to select the Radias like I would another volume on a computer, so it must be a different process.
I was not trying to backup anything except the sound files. I get that the system is stored differently, and there is no need for a backup. I have the files that loaded system 2.0 anyhow, and they can still be downloaded, and the system should be safe anyhow, unless there is some tragic malfunction...
I’m probably sounding like a complete fool here— I just don’t see what to click or select to access the data on the Radias. I’m not certain how to load files to it either, but I dare not explore that until I have definitely backed up the sound library that's in the Radias now.
I suspect that once I backup the sounds and load another library once, this will become much simpler. I'm looking through all the menus, and reading through the print manual, and seeing nothing that appears like the appropriate option, and to be sure, I’m a bit afraid I may explore the wrong option and loose sound files that I cannot replace and really upset my daughter instead of accomplishing what she is asking.
Again, I really appreciate the help!
