Buzzing - Power supply

Post by JoelPR75 »

Hi all,

I have a KRONOS 88. About a year or so ago, the power cord that was plugged in snugly was nudged / hit a bit downward, and the inlet on the back of the KRONOS is pointed slightly downward. I can post or mail a pic if a time was interested in taking a peek.

Indoors, with tinkering with my amp, I get it to kinda minimal ...

After that happened, I plugged it in, it booted fine, it sounded fine. About four months ago, it began buzzing regularly. How do I determine if this is due to the inlet pointing downward (an "L" shaped power cord should come with a product as great as this ... ) or other power issues. I'm seeing Im not the only one, but I want to somehow rule out (if that's the case) the inlet being nudged downward a bit.

Any advise anyone?

Best,
Joel

Hi
Is you buzzing noise really a buzz or sort of white noise.
If sounds like a hiss make sure the inouts for microphones are zeroed as even if there is no mic plugged in if the inputs are depressed and turn up you will hear noises and pops.jst my expetience as it happened to me before, i hope ots nothing serious with your psu

I've never had any sort of buzz or hiss on my original 88. I was worried about it since it's basically a computer inside and my laptops frequently give issues in live situations, I always have to take care to use clean power, ground lift, DI, etc.

However, I do always use a UPS which I think also does some power conditioning and cleaning. And as a rule power is quite good in most places I go (Holland).

To me, the prime suspect would be the power input you mention, perhaps the ground got damaged? It's worth checking with a different setup - another wall socket, just headphones, etc.

A switching mode power supply (PSU) will never output a carrier of a buzzing sound because of the way it actually works
and regulates output voltages , if it has a malfunction then "all" will be dead in your Kronos !
It can occasionally make a sonic noise itself 'cause of strong EMF that it produces but it can influence only very sensitive
audio line cables that are very close to it's ferrite transformers , that doesn't happens in Kronos.
Therefore if no grounding issue can justify a buzzing , then you might have to investigate sound module circuits
(outside motherboard) no matter if a UPS is used or not !

Could be the fan buzzing. If you have OS 3.0.2 change the fan speed and see if it changes pitch.
