I was surprised to hear Korg promise the availability of the new Berlin Grand library to legacy Kronos owners for late January, as this library is one of the big selling points of the 2015 wood-panel model (along with the wood panels of course).
If I worked in marketing at Korg I would make sure that everyone who wanted to buy a new Kronos took delivery on it before letting any legacy Kronos owners buy the Berlin library, Otherwise an incentive is created to buy a used instrument instead of waiting for the new one.

This is one of the reasons I cancelled my K2 order (was fully paid for) I figured if I can get everything that the current Kronos users have and pick up a Kronos X second hand and save over £800 in total, this is the best option.techeverlasting wrote:I was surprised to hear Korg promise the availability of the new Berlin Grand library to legacy Kronos owners for late January, as this library is one of the big selling points of the 2015 wood-panel model (along with the wood panels of course).

That's a fair point. But this is a reason why loyalty/enthusiasm is strong with us current kronos owners.techeverlasting wrote:I was surprised to hear Korg promise the availability of the new Berlin Grand library to legacy Kronos owners for late January, as this library is one of the big selling points of the 2015 wood-panel model (along with the wood panels of course).

The kronos 2 should be available in some volume in 2 or so months
Yet, the Berlin will be available to 25,000 current Kronod owners for a fee. I think it's fair to say there will be many quick sales.
How many Kronos 2 ' s will be sold over the next 2 or 3 months ?

Just to clarify my point, if Korg does indeed wait until the new Kronos 2s are being delivered before making the Berlin Grand library available to legacy Kronos owners I will still think that they deserve much praise for their policy of making it possible for people who purchased an instrument in 2011 to be able to stay completely up-to-date.
If I was waiting for my new full-price 2015 Kronos to be delivered and had to spend my time reading about how much owners of older units were enjoying the new Berlin Grand I might feel a bit mistreated.
In any event it sure seems like late January to me and I don't see any word about pricing or availability of the Berlin Grand yet.

I don't get this point at all: Korg chose the by far smartest way IMHO.
Most present Kronos users don't want to replace their unit by the new Kronos. They just want to use their's. There is only a small number of people, who want to buy one of the remaining older or used units for financial reasons. Most new buyers want the Kronos with the updated design, no matter if buyers of an older Kronos use a Berlin grand as well. And frankly, this kind of envy would be quite sllly in my eyes.
The Berlin Grand will probably become THE Kronos signature piano in no time. Korg will sell it like sliced bread to owners of former Kronos versions. Annoying pro keyboarders, using older versions, by artificial restrictions, like denying the buy of the Berlin, would cause much more frustration among much more users, than a few small-minded buyers of the new version could ever cause.
