Exporting Audio In Osc parts to SD card

apapdop, I think that you may be right about the electribe recording a signal at first launch. When I first sequenced the Minibrute from the electribe earlier today, it had a particular sound compared to my current tweaking/preset.
It's too bad it doesn't update the signal to the most recent launch...
I don't know, can someone else maybe confirm my observations?

I used 2 different ways to record the audio in OSC.
1: Triggering notes on the external device with the e2. This works great for Animoog for example. Audio will be triggered and exported.
2: Create a full sequence of tied notes. Audio in will be constantly played back and recorded when exporting.
I haven't used the audio through mode much. If you want to record the audio in and apply effects the second method will work.
To use P-set audio export you first need to assign patterns to pads. You have 4 banks of 16 pads. Pressing the pattern set button will take you pattern set mode where you can use the octave keys to select a bank.
To assign a pattern to a pad first make sure the pattern you want to assign is the active pattern then press and hold the pattern set button + destination pad. Once you setup which pad triggers what pattern you can export the pattern set.
(I'm pretty sure thats how its done, can't test it anymore as I'm without an e2 for the moment)

Can someone please post an idiot proof instruction how to successfully record the Audio In osc?
I've tried it more than hundred times with various settings, various midi interfaces, cables, everything. My card connectors will wear out soon from constant switching from Electribe to CPU…
It does not work - the audio file has just silence.

Electribe2 / Volca Beats / Volca FM / Monologue
Audio Thru = Off
Part 1 Osc = Audio In
Connect MIDI
Make sure the Volca is on the right MIDI channel
Make sure the MIDI out filter is disabled
Record sequence for Part 1
Export audio
Done
Note: You have to sequence the Volca with the Electribe's sequencer and NOT with the Volca's sequencer. OR: If you want to use the Volca's sequencer you have to set one tied note in the Electribe's sequencer. This means: You can't export external audio if the Electribe's pattern doesn't include any note events.

This is exactly, step by step what I did.
No audio in my file.
I guess I have to return my unit...
But i does not seem to be a hardware problem though.
Both audio and midi seem to be routed properly, except for this option.

Ok man, I'm going to really try and help you out here. I know how frustrating and time consuming music gear can be, but I think a lot of us can agree with me, that when you finally figure it out after trial and tribulation, the feeling of conquring technology is so satisfying. 1 point for the humans!
So you mentioned that you can't hear the Volca Bass when audio thru is off, are you certain that you enabled the "Audio In" in the exact particular Part where you sequence was made?
For my pattern I have:
Part:02 (my sequence) OSC: Audio in
To clarify "Audio In" is number 409 in the OSC TYPE
If that's all set and you've got a sequence going on that particular Part, then maybe your signal from the Volca Bass is to low. If your getting a good signal the Level graphic will fluctuate up and down (next to the BPM: right side) on the screen. If your signal is too hot, then it reads "CLIP" instead of the level.

Do you still hear volca bass sound in the mix during playing the pattern when audio thru is off?
Now, if you still don't hear the Volca Bass, then maybe you have a particular MOD.Type that's damping the sound in some way. You can try switching to another Mod.type or mess with your filter cut off, resonance, or EG Int knob, and etc. Mess with the LPF HPF BPF buttons too, those filters may be cutting off your signal too. Or try the Insert FX or the Amp EG, but point here, is to test see if one of these parameters are masking your signal.
Hopefully that gives you more insight.
Btw, try writing the pattern before Exporting Audio, if you haven't already.

I've quadruple-checked 99% things you guys were kind to list here.
Except for the mod part you've just mentioned. Will check that later this day and post back.
Thanks for all the help and detailed information!

Hey Rob,roblabs wrote:hey lebowski, are you making sure your Input Level is up (the knob right next to the master volume)?
Yes I did, I also checked if the signal isn't clipping which is neatly prompted on the Electribe's LCD.
I'm on my way home and will check it for the last goddamn time...
On a new pattern created from scratch, maybe some modulations are indeed cutting the audio off. Like I said - every other steps were checked for an ridiculous amount of times, I haven't a decent sleep for the last 3 nights

If it does not work Ill have to say goodbye to this machine. I really wanted to combine it with the rest of my gear.

So we know that e2 triggers your volca right? Plug in your headphones to volca during triggering to be sure that it plays the sound.
Next go to e2 sequenser mode and check gate time of the part that triggers volca, maybe it is too short, if it is swich it to tie (every midi note) as well as switch amp env on and turn the decay knob all the way to the right.

All the Dude ever wanted is to have his AudioIn oscillator exported…
AND IT WORKS!!!
Here's what happened: this time I've initialised a fresh pattern and used the Volca Keys instead of the Bass. Finally it worked! Audio Trough was off all the time, because the incoming Volca sound was monitored in the Electribe.
Then I've tried it again - this time with the Volca Bass and with some motion sequencing with the Acid Filter on the Electribe. And the recorded motion sequencing/filtering was rendered in the wav file! This is exactly the feature I was so excited about.
What I've discovered and what was propably the reason of my previous fails: THE EDIT KNOB.
If its left untouched, straight from the default init pattern - everything works fine. But if you dial down the value to zero, the audio level goes to zero, regardless of the input level! That's why previously I had to turn on the Audio Through setting, to be able to hear anything...
So to give an epic conclusion to this drama, I have 2 final questions:
1. Every oscillator has its individual parameter tweakable via the Edit button. But what exactly does the parameter of the Audio In oscillator?
On high values it acts like an overdrive, but at the same time it controls the input level and is able to shut the incoming audio completely off...
2. This was mentioned here, but I don't get it fully – is it possible to record a pattern inside the volca sequencer, and then trigger that pattern to record it into the Electribe and then save it with the Export audio feature?
I really dig the Volca bass and its filter and would love to transfer its motion sequencing into the exported WAVs.
I really want to thank you for all your help and tips, you're awesome!

Well done for getting it sorted in the end, hats off to you fella. There's nothing quite like showing technology who's the Daddy!!
If I'm not listening to music, or if I'm not making music, then I'm probably thinking about music.
