Which part? The Intro? The whole song? (This would be more than 1 Combi)
Yes, I use four combis
1) Intro - pad and lead
2) Dual Hammond (upper and lower with lower on my EX5 - it's daft with the CX3 that you can have dual manual, but only from the Kronos keyboard, so you need two CX3's, one for each manual)
3) Hammond and lead
4) Outro (same as intro actually; can't remember why I didn't just reference the intro!)

So three then. :)

I'll be happy to share the sounds I've made, but can't share the intro pad as that comes from a commercial library (the Pink Floyd Analogy)

Thanks Derek, I was just looking at the PF Anthology. I didn't know anyone else made them for the Kronos (I asked about the Kronos Patch Lab with now answers). Are the rest of the sounds/combi's as good as they sound on YT? I might break down and purchase it if that's the case. At least I could tinker with the rest of the songs.

This is a very cool and generous thing to do for the Forum and i am grateful to you for doing it.

Thanks
Okay, here you go. Sorry it took so long, I've been busy shovelling my driveway of snow lately, so less time in front of the Kronos.

Here are the demo samples that you asked for:

The Synth Horn Hit sound
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/490 ... eigner.mp3

The Warble sound
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/490 ... Warble.mp3

Telephone Love opening sound
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/490 ... eigner.mp3

Telephone Love Lead sound
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/490 ... 20Lead.mp3

Some notes about the sounds and how I built them:
The synth horn hit sounds fade in when you use Joy -Y... The -Y will make it quiet so you can fade in as shown in the demo. Joy +Y gives you vibrato. Aftertouch will open the filter and add a very small amount of vibrato. It's pretty expressive overall and slightly sounds like a horn.

The warble sound makes NO sound until you press Joy +Y to fade it in. (So if you start playing and nothing comes out, this is why)
There is also a LOT of tonal control in the VJS as well. (Vector Joystick) fading in oscillators and such. Sounds neat, maybe not exactly the same as the original but pretty close overall. Worth playing with.

The Telephone Love opening sound: I made this using the MS-20, and I believe that except for a EG I couldn't fully control the way I wanted to, it's basically the same sound as the opening. I toyed with the AL1 a bit, but figured I would get closer using the MS-20. It sounds pretty good to me anyway.

The Telephone Love Lead is pitch bend -6 down and up since this is what was done on the album. It might have been -7 however they played -6 so that's what I'm going with. A small performance thing: The octave layer that is higher than the main lead sound will come out more when/if you play harder. I don't think this happens in the real song, but it sounds awesome as a lead keyboard sound. It's subtle but toy with it.

Also JS Y+ will add a bunch of reverb so it's clean when you play with the band, but at the end of the solo you can add the reverb like the album, as I did in the demo.

Oh and sorry for my bad playing. I didn't bother to learn any of the actual parts, I just wanted to get you some sounds that were accurate.

Let me know what you think!

Since you have the N264, what I'd ask is for me to make it more accurate is if you could record yourself playing a few notes low and high at a few velocities. If you can do that, I could likely recreate the sound easily enough. I notice that you're using the N264 to make the string sound... Since you "have it" already, it would be more beneficial to me if you can do what I asked above.

Once you do that, I don't see any reason I couldn't get it almost exactly the same.

Since you have the N264...

That's the point. :/ I don't have it anymore. I used to have both versions, the N264 and the N364, but I sold them both. I imagined if you could get closer to the sound by just using the sounds inside the Kronos itself. I'm trying to replicate, but without any success. Could you try to program it?

Oh, and I just used the video from a guy on Youtube. It is not me playing.

Ahhh, I totally misunderstood. I thought it was you in the Youtube video. I'm having a hard time hearing the strings clearly, but I'll go to the album and see if I can use the strings from there.

No problem - I'll do what I can :)

Okay, I went back and looked at the 3 songs.

Foreigner : That was yesterday - Should be doable in a reasonable time frame. It's not terribly complicated, but there are a few neat things happening within the various splits within the song. Probably a good 10-12 programmed sounds (fast strings, splits, layers, etc.)

Howard Jones : What is love - This is going to be a PROJECT, not a simple task. Within the first 10 seconds, there's already 6 separate synth sounds. happening. Wait another 10 seconds and add another 4-5 synth sounds.
Each one on their own is very precise and distinct... Kudos to the sound engineer for being able to keep them all separate in the mix. I might have to put this one hold until I have some more time.

Simple Minds : Don't you - This should be easy enough.

Look forward to the Howard Jones and Simple Minds ones if you do them :)

Once I'm back from a business trip this week, I'll see if I can post the AL-1 patches I have done so far for some classic songs.

Yes many years of programming this sound in Combi/or seq(RPPR) brings me to 10% of the sound... The most sounds aren't too hard ;-) ( more in the background) except the main synthbrasssound, no chance for me to come near to this fat sound...
Love and peace to everyone :-)

Foreigner sounds

Post by Omnisphere »

Hey Enigma,

Excellent job on the Foreigner sounds, very accurate and playable, the Joystick fade ins/outs and reverb were the icing on the cake.

The other sounds are also great!

Many thanks

Finished two more:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/490 ... pening.mp3

This is the opening sound to Runaway (Bon Jovi), there's something still not quite perfect about it, but it's definitely close.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/490 ... 20OPEN.PCG

The program is in the User EE Bank.

The other one is the strings sound used by Tuomas from Nightwish.

Runaway patch sounds like it just needs a little delay. Spot on other than being too dry. Good job!
