Ethernet connection with WinXP PC
As it says, as anyone been able to connect the Kronos via WinXP OS?
I've been trying everything for hours, I'm always getting the "limited or no connection" status for this connection.
I have done the obvious:
-Purchased a listed device (TRENDnet TU2‐ET100)
-No firewall active
-Tried setting up an ftp connection in explorer ftp://kronos@kronos
-Tried setting up an ftp connection in explorer ftp://kronos@169.254.10.205
-Tried 2 ftp program suggested here
I'm getting a green light on both devices and the Kronos appears to connect.
Yeah, I know, WinXP is old but I use my old laptop for stuff like this, it's still running rock solid.
Is the port 21?
Anyway, I could really use any ideas at this point, aside from installing anther OS.
Regards,
Den

169.254.10.205 is an autoconfigure address. It's what you get when your device is set to DHCP and there's no DHCP Server. I'm assuming you have no cable router or something in between the Kronos and a computer. You will need to set a static IP address on both the Kronos and your PC in the same subnet in order for them to talk. Do something like this:
Computer:
IP: 10.0.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Def Gateway: (none needed)
Kronos:
IP: 10.0.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Def Gateway: (none needed)
Also, since you don't have a cable router with DHCP services that can provide name resolution, using the "kronos" hostname will not work. You will need to use the name kronos@10.0.0.2. However, you could go into your HOSTS file on the XP machine and set up a static name in there (I wouldn't bother, though).

I'm using XP and connect OK with the Kronos. I'm using Core FTP LE (free download). The port is 21 and the URL is 192.168.0.100. I also use a couple of Apple devices with my Windows 8 laptop and they also work with XP. They have different URLs though (the URLs you have to install in the Kronos) One is 169.254.5.84 and the other is 169.254.6.221. I have the TrendNet but don't use it any more as the Apple devices are much neater. Maybe the TrendNet has its own URL. Don't remember it though.

if you're not traversing subnets (which you wouldn't be in this specific case), you don't need to worry about setting a gateway/router address.Dniss wrote:On the kronos, that is done in manual configuration? Is there a way to clear that router field? Tried inputing 0.0.0.0 but I got an "invalid router" error message. I put 10.10.10.1 and it worked. Maybe anything else than 0.0.0.0 would've worked too.
Thanks for saving my day though.
ps Roger Dean, are you a Yes aficionado?
