Kronos 2-61 has landed!

Post by dave_r »

Came home today to a large brown box awaiting me :)
One of the first few in the UK so I'm told.

I have to hand it to Korg, this thing is really amazing. I thought the Oasys was incredible, but this takes it to the next level. I've really only had a chance so far to play some of the factory patches and have a nose around (I've had real fun with the "famous song name" patches, most of them are really spot on).

Two things I can safely say over the Kronos X :

1) The fan runs on startup but halfway through boot settles down to an low, totally unobtrusive sound. You really can't hear it. Bravo!!!
2) The keybed is improved, much quieter. Excellent.

Anyway, I must get back to exploring the Kronos. Here are some pictures of unboxing and settling in with his brothers and sisters :P

Very nice, hope you enjoy it I got mine on Feb.2. The fan is quiet after booting and the keybed is much better for starts. Did you see on startup about turning off after 4 hrs. unless you turn this feature to off. I just turned mine to off. Good luck!

Kronos 2 61'ers, please tell me more about how good the synth action keys are, & how quiet the fan is? Looking forward to finding one to try out.

I have the old one (first series) and the new one here side by side.
Fan noise at booting is louder (faster) than the old one but quieter in operation (in fact very quiet). The noise is totally different, more "turbine" like, my old one was more "propeller" like. I had the old one on "Slow" and the new one on "Auto". Best: On the new one you can switch it completely off.
Temperatures:
Old: "Slow" 55° "Auto" 59°
New: "Off" 51° "Auto" 56°
Boot time is 15 seconds faster (the older one has a D510 motherboad).
Action (61) seems to be a bit more heavy (i like it) . Furthermore the old one has a more springy sound when releasing the keys but both differences could by due to his age.
Knobs, buttons and sliders are looking exactly the same (not narrower as someone said) but some buttons on the new one are a bit louder (sounds cheaper for me). Generally i would like the buttons to be more quiet on both machines.
Display responsiveness is the same, the new one has less bleeding, but it is a tiny tad darker.
Most differences could also be due to normal series spreading (probably the wrong word?).
The wood looks really fantastic, it like very much that it is unlacquerd. It feels rather soft.
I'm happy with the machine!

So those wooden ends do work.
It stands out as the 'main man' in your set up.
Congrats.

Congrats! You will find that the OASYS and Kronos play very well together. I have them MIDI linked and with the S/P DIF linked, using the longer OASYS keybed as a controller. In Sequence mode, you can use INT and EXT settings to keep sound to themselves (or layered, if you like).
