Beatless, have you figured out a way to send your combi?
I could use some help.
Thanks

Beatless, if you can't send your combo, perhaps you can just tell us which sounds you used for what... This could save me/others a bunch of time!! For example I can't find that Vocal "Do Do" sound? or that note that glides up.. if you can provide the names and int/user banks that you've found them in that would be great!!!
Thanks.

Thanks for keeping this thread alive. I am really struggling with the rising synth sound. If anyone can please help, Ty in advance. I know I could get it if we were sequencing, however we won't use sequences live.
Stay tuned and I will give you that vocal/bass patch. Just need to turn on the machinery.

Just thought I'd share a live recording of our version of Uptown Funk. It's a recording straight off the FOH PA, so is a little unbalanced and the version is a little rough as this was played about 2hrs into a 3.5hr gig
http://drstudio.da-media.co.uk/korg/Upt ... 2-2015.mp3
The brass is "6 Trumpets ST Section" from EXs16 Funk and Soul Brass. The riser synth sound is from a Roland Fantom G7 with the rise (erratically) controlled by the on-board D-Beam controller. Everything is played live... Fantom synth pad in the left hand and Kronos brass in the right - the "machine-gun" brass stabs in particular took a while to get up to speed.

I would love to get that combi as well my friend. Would love to do this live, but I told my band I would be lost trying to program all that stuff lol. Also if you or anyone else has a good brass patch (I don't have that soul EXi )that I can sub I would appreciate it too.beatlessDesign wrote:not sure I have my gear away for a gig tonight so I'll try and have a look later for ya..... if you want I'd be happy to send on my version of the combi if anyone is interested [just have to figure out how to save it to a file]

Free tip: the left hand pad in the chorus is actually FCD followed by FBD. You're playing something like FAD and FAC.
Thanks for the great tips andrewt!andrewt wrote:I have 1999 Power Synth with added modulation, then 6 Trumpets ST Section (good choice DaveBoulden) duplicated with the same program an octave down, turned down in the mix. G090 "Warm Pad" seems to me to be the closest to the pad at the beginning.
I actually did what you describe in your youtube video--sample the portamento and convert it to a program and put it in the combi, so it always sounds the same. I put it on the highest C so it doesn't get in the way of the synth glisses. It starts on the E above Middle C and goes almost 2 octaves.
I did the combi of IE037 and IE039, then under Timbre Parameter/OSC, set Force OSC Mode to Legato, and Portamento to 90. It sounds about 90% there to me. Then you can sample it right from the combi and use Auto Sampling Setup to convert it to a program. There's a tutorial in the Operation Guide. Make sure you save your sampling data so the program has a sample to refer to. I use the _userbank.ksc and put it in auto-load in Global.
To get the Rising Synth patch I followed your instructions using IE037 and IE039 (one of them an octave higher though), with your parameter suggestions for Timber Parameter/OSC, Force OSC and Portamento.
The result is spot on. I think you really nailed that rising synth sound.
Haven't been able to Auto Sample it yet, the instructions in the Operation Guide weren't clear enough for me. But I will keep on trying when I have a clearer schedule.
For now I am using a specific Combi for that section of the song. I don't have any other sounds to play on that part anyway.
Tante Grazie!

I programmed a single key program in AL-1 for the rise sound and a slow pitch envelope to raise it up. It took a bit of tweaking to get the time down, but all I need to do is hold down a single key and let go when it's done.
The brass sounds I use are a combination of of 2 trumpets and 2 saxes (tenor and a bari), with one of each coming from the Kronos and one of each coming from my Integra7. The synth brass sound is from my Prophet 12. We use backing tracks for some of the vocal stuff, so the part at the beginning comes from there.

Finally a video snippet from our version (sorry, it's Facebook only!)

recorded on an evening when the tempo was not overly conducive to playing the stabs very easily
