CX-3 / Sequencer Question

Post by Ashe Corvin »

I was messing around with the sequencer a week ago and ran into a scenario where I wanted to control an organ tone via drawbars while recording and could not for the life of me figure out how to do that. The faders just adjust volume, or other parameters if I selected "Tone ADJ".

I thought I could go into program edit mode but it would not let me record. I tried different settings, etc, and actually learned quite a bit, but not what I needed.

Maybe it's controller settings? Any help would be appreciated, no rush though as it's not for anything important. Just getting familiar with the Kronos and loving every minute of it so far.

My Kronos isn't turned on right now but I think that if you load an organ sound into Seq mode, go to control panel and find the one that has the drawbars on it, you can then record your song with drawbar changes working properly. I did it once a long time ago and I think that's how I did it.
If music is the food of love, play on and play loud!

The control surface on the left has to be set to "Tone Adjust". That goes for every mode if you want to control CX-3 drawbars, not just in the sequencer.

I did try the Tone ADJ, but it didn't work. When I looked into the controller settings for the SEQ the faders are mapped to functions such as EQ, and others I can't remember right now. I think maybe those mappings need to be changed, I just need to figure out what to change them to. I haven't spent a significant amount of time on this, maybe 1/2 hour before giving up for the night. Next time I have an hour or so I'll see if I can figure that out.

I was looking for something like that, but the only place I could find it was if you go to "Program Edit" directly from the SEQ Menu, but when doing that I could not record. I'm sure I'm missing something easy. There has to be a way to do this.

Are you sure that the Tone Adjust panel was set for the correct timbre? You can change it on the right hand side while your screen is showing the Control Surface/Tone Adjust mode.

If it is not doing the drawbars and your correct timbre is selected, it must have gotten changed somehow though I couldn't imagine what would do that. You can touch the little arrow next to each on-screen slider and map them to the upper drawbars of the CX3 engine. Just go in order and you'll be fine.

I'm pretty sure, I guess? I can't be 100% sure since I'm not in front of my board. I have a day off tomorrow so I'll check then. If I can't get it to work I'll post pictures.

FYI - I'm pretty new to all this, haven't bought a keyboard since the Trinity Pro X in 96, and haven't even played that one for about 9 years. I'm pretty much learning how to play again (coming along nicely, thank you) and at the same time catching up with the new tech. I never really did sequencing back then, and DAWs were pretty much inaccessible for the home so a lot of this is new to me, but I'm excited to learn as I have a few videos I produced that I'd like to also produce the music for.

I've been able to get quite a few questions answered by looking through the manuals, but I couldn't find anything on this one. Probably not looking in the right places.

It's very easy to do this. Once you have your organ sound copied to a seq. you go to the control panel. On the left side of the screen, you will see "Tone Adjust". CLick on that. It's the bottom one. Make sure that the Make sure that in the box on the upper right where it says "Track" that you are on the same track as your organ sound. Now when you move your"drawbars", it will work!
