Sync Korg SQ-1 to Ableton - Please help

Hi everyone,
I'd be really grateful if anyone could help me with this.
I've just bought a Korg SQ-1 sequencer to use with my Microbrute.
Try as I might I can't get it to sync to Ableton.
I can sync Ableton to it, but the tempos are a bit erratic and jump around a bit.
One problem is that there are a number of ways of connecting the SQ-1 - I have it connected by usb but I can also take a midi out into my sound card or my microbrute.
I've been wrestling with the midi sync settings and the closest I can get is to turn on the sync and track for the output (SQ-1 CTRL)
This syncs the org to ableton but doesn't make any sound.
Any ideas?

what is acting as master? ableton or sq-1?

I would use midi out from ableton into the sq-1 and then the gates from the sq-1 to the minbrute personally

Thanks, that's what I ended up doing and it's all working now.
What I didn't realise is that the sq1 won't put out midi if it's receiving midi clock.
I connected the cv and gate out to the microbrute gate in and pitch in.
Having so much fun with it now!
