MIDI IN and OUT "disappeared"

I've had my Kronos 73 a week but have owned Korg keyboards for a long time. I have the MIDI driver installed on my PC (Win 7, 62 bit running Cubase Essential 4). Last night , I was able to send MIDI notes to Cubase and receive them into the Kronos. Now today, for some reason, the PC can "see" the Kronos, but the MIDI In and OUT have disappeared from Cubase. I can't get the Editor to see them either. The Kronos appears in the List in the Device Manager. I've tried turning everything off and rebooting in all sorts of combinations , but I cannot get MIDI to communicate with the Kronos down the USB lead. Any ideas?

Superb fix !! I remember having this problem years ago on a Korg Sampler, but could not recall how to fix it. Thanks for a speedy and useful reply.
