Help! Buy Old or Buy New?
I have been looking at purchasing a Korg Kronos. I have the opportunity to buy a new Korg Kronos X at a completely insane low price (as the company is making way for the newer model). If I purchase the Kronos X will I still be able to upgrade to the newest sounds found on the Kronos 2 such as the Berlin Piano, etc.? If this question has been asked before I apologize for repeating. Thanks for the help.

Kronos X is a very capable synth and the advantages of getting the Kronos 2 instead are minimal especially if you're able to get it at a low price.coachmike wrote:I have been looking at purchasing a Korg Kronos. If you asked me right now: Buy the Kronos 2 at $3500 or the Kronos X at $1800, I'd buy the Kronos X and pay the $300 to upgrade it to the same Kronos 2 soundset.
Will the Kronos X still come with a warranty? If so, then I'd say personally it's a no-brainer. The Kronos 2 doesn't really offer anything that you can't get with the Kronos X other than wooden side panels, and back vent. Otherwise it's basically the same thing.
Just my 2c.

I wouldn't even pay the 300. But I do agree with enigmahack.... I'd def go with the Kronos X.

i am the cautious type with advertised sharply priced new deals.coachmike wrote:I have been looking at purchasing a Korg Kronos. I have the opportunity to buy a new Korg Kronos X at a completely insane low price (as the company is making way for the newer model)..
Make sure the X is factory sealed and not 'reboxed'. I avoid customer returns like this that are pitched as ' new'. IOW, if you choose to buy a " B stock " or a demo , it should disclosed accurately.

I would make sure the warranty is solid because they are alot of KX that are refurbished and sale as new but for me it would depend on my financial situation. The KX at that price is real good.

New?
Outside of the price, I'd have some check points:
- warranty
- parts availability (some have voiced concerns on this forum)
- making sure it's a brand new unit
Usually I would add resale value after a year or two, but this doesn't seem to be an issue with the Kronos.
Personally, I'm also wary of deals that seem too good to be true. Read the fine print.

I checked the following:
-It is a brand new unit, not a re-stock or re-box.
-Warranty is applied
-Price is $2399 (US) + tax
Anything else I should be looking for?
I am very intrigued with the different piano sets such as Lady Madonna, Imagine, and synth sounds such as Fly Like An Eagle on the New Kronos. If these are also found on the X or can found on the updates that can be downloaded on I guess I cannot go wrong.

Those are part of the KRS-07 (I think) add on. You have to pay for them, but yes they're available on the Kronos X.coachmike wrote: I am very intrigued with the different piano sets such as Lady Madonna, Imagine, and synth sounds such as Fly Like An Eagle on the New Kronos. It's a bundle, part of the EXs17 (Berlin) and EXs18 (String/choir/brass) sounds, and comes as part of the bundle.
Should be the first one you see.

To be perfectly honest i paid $2900 for my K2 88 and was the best price that i found with no tax at SA in ATL. That being said if you buy the sound package and your total would be around 2700 for an KX 88. You may get a K2 88 for 2900 or close to that if you have connections or just a talker yourself. Good luck and best wishes on your decision.

Re: i
thats a good analysis. The diff is $250 assuming the person really likes the Berlin. I personally like it.benny ray wrote:To be perfectly honest i paid $2900 for my K2 88 and was the best price that i found with no tax at SA in ATL. For me, and if I was in the market, I would likely get the K288($2900) , assuming its available right now.
