Make KARMA play chords from single notes

Post by buschmann »

Hi guys. I'm trying to duplicate Europe's Final Countdown. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jK-NcR ... freload=10 I dont have enough fingers, let alone hands to do this "just like the record", but, if KARMA can play a predefined chord from a single note i think i can pull it of!

1) How do i make KARMA play chords from a single note?
2) How do i assign timbres (in my case 3,4 and 5) to fade in with a foot controller? (needed for the second part of the intro where the organ and strings/pad fade in)

Video wouldn't play on my computer; probably some glitch here at the moment. So I don't know specifically what you are wanting to do, but...

If you just want to press something and have a predetermined chord come out, why not use the Pads?

KARMA is not going to be able to put out a different chords for single key presses, but that sounds exactly like what the pads do. :)

Hi! Thank you for the quick reply.

Well then, can one assign pads to notes? I need to multitask bigtime, as in play the chords in the left hand with one finger, and play* a counterpoint with the rest of them.

Seems that there is only one solution for you, create your sound in a song ( copy combi to song) and create RPPRs thats the best solution also for Live Playing without a click...
Love and peace to everyone :-)

Stephen's suggestion of using the pads is probably the easiest for you. You can find a lot of info on setting up the on screen pads on page 39 of the Kronos Operation Guide. You'll find the pad setup within your combi in the EQ/Vector/Control tab, then the Pads tab. Once there, you can also press the Help button on your Kronos to bring up the online manual for that page. If you don't want to play the on screen pads, you can get a Korg Nanopad2 for around $60. When you connect it to the Kronos, it automatically maps the lower 8 pads to the on screen pads.

For assigning timbres to a foot controller within a combi, go to the MIDI Filter/Zones tab, then the MIDI Filter3 tab. You'll see a row of check boxes under Enable Foot Pedal. Deselect all of the timbres that you don't want to be affected by your foot controller. Only the checked boxes will be affected by the controller within that combi.

Pedals is the answer to this, trigger more things with your pedals... You can also trigger the pads with your pedals...

I am using a set of midipedals Yamaha MFC10, but you could also use the Behringer BFC1010, both give you 4 banks of 10 switches, to trigger things in real time..

I have allways been wondering why not more people use these pedals to trigger things... Not only with things like this, but also with instruments like kontakt...

Thanks for the suggestion. RPPRs could prove useful for some stuff I do live. Currently I'm using pads and triggering them from an external midi controller for simple chord pads. I like the pattern aspect to the RPPR and it could be useful for breaking down percussion parts into 2-3 keys so I can play in realtime along with the drummer, but still have some complexity to the parts and a free hand to play something else.

I did find this video for the Krome, but it could help in understanding how they are set up. The parameter guide will give you the specifics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ersbhImhto

Bachus, i've been looking for a multi-function pedal, thanks. So the KRONOS allows these pedals to carry out a range of different midi options? As well as change voice/program, i want a pedal that can start/stop a beat, play an entire chord, fade out volume etc.

Check out the Roland FC300. Built like like a tank, and you can program it to do pretty much anything. Has two expression pedals and general switches, and you can expand it. I have another expression pedal and three general switches, and use the selector switches to change patches when I am playing (and SST is great!)
