It sounds great, is portable, can do a lot for what it is and is pretty much bug-free. It was never advertised as a sampler, but Korg did ultimately provide a very workable means of getting samples onto the device.

The new Electribe, at it's current price point, does not feel like it's worth the money. It is has a variety of bugs, some of which are total deal breakers (like the bug that keeps causing crashes for some people). Sure, it has higher audio fidelity than the old EMX but feature-wise it is worse off. They scaled back some important compositional tools (like having 4 bars instead of 8) and again, at it's current price point this feels like a bad deal. I want to believe that something that's 3 times the price of a Volca will give me 3 times as much value in terms of quality and workflow but this isn't the case here.

In my opinion the Volca Sample is the true descendant of the ESX. The workflow matches up pretty closely. I wish they'd just make a Volca Sample Plus. Add a few more features and the ability to sample on the device and it will sell like hotcakes. The immediacy of the workflow on the Sample makes these new Electribes feel like a slog.
Buy all 3 original Volcas and you are around the same cost as an e2 with less functionality.
01/WFD - M3 - MS-20 - Volca Bass - Volca Beats - Volca Keys - electribe emx2 - Monotron - KP3+ - iPad with too many Korg apps

Moog Sub 37 - Arturia Microbrute - Roland Gaia SH-01 - Boss DR660 - Akai S1000 - Akai S01 - Yamaha RM1x - Roland SP-404SX

Yes but they are analog which is inherently more expensive per voice.

Not saying they are better either.

Volca sample is more like the es1's little brother. It is in no way the descendant of the ESX...that's just a ludacris statement.

I don't think Sonicstate Nick is remotely interested in Electribes to be honest.
Oh really?

I stand suprised and corrected.
If I'm not listening to music, or if I'm not making music, then I'm probably thinking about music.

Volca Sample, FM, Beats, Kick. OP-1, Monologue, Pocket Operators. And an ipad.

Just pulled the trigger on a brand new ESX yesterday... and oh surprise, the seller did a 50% discount because he wanted to get rid of his old stock!
I was already convinced by the older model, but here that was a no-brainer

And now I have to start looking for those improved JJ tubes...

Aint a good sign if Korg isn't standing by their products!

I have said many times and in many ways how I feel about Korgs marketing / promotion practices and their lack of communicating with the Korg community.

I will be happy once I get my ES2. One can't help but feel a little ownership to an unreleased product once you paid for your pre-order.

Not looking for any firmware upgrades...or more empty hopes and dreams from Korg. It is obvious Korg wants to be done with the ES2 line, and I want them to be done as well...shipped and at my door step, yesterday!

It could be the reps were just busy with other reviewers in the booth at the time too, doesn't have to imply they were ashamed of the Sampler and didn't want to talk about it :)

A music store in Bangkok.
And before someone ask, they don't sell online...
