Used SV-1 - Buyer's guide

Post by mirszy »

I'm thinking about getting a used SV-1. What should I pay attention to while testing the SV-1? How would you test it before buying one? What are the most common problems?

I've read about clicking keyboards, problems with tubes etc. I've also read that keyboards with "RH3 Japan" sticker is better than keyboards with "RH3" - does it mean the older ones should be avoided?

I'm a little nervous that I may miss something and later regret it.

OR... should I ignore all that noise, and just "go for it"? ;)

Things to check

Post by teddyc1 »

From what I've read, couple things I'd check:

Reverb knob - does it increase reverb ok at 1, and too much at 2+?

Keys: Do they play ok softly, especially on the left hand side? Then the RH3 is probably ok.
SV-1 73.
I sell and upgrade 10-string lyre harps.
Guild F65CE acoustic/electric, Yerubilee 10-string lyre. Stradivarius Bach model 37.
Former gear: Fender Rhodes MKII suitcase, Roland Juno 6.

Some people have complained about broken keys on the original RH keybed - they stick down and won't come back up. It should be obvious if a second-hand one is suffering from that problem.
I have an original RH keybed SV-1 88, and I've gigged with it for years no with no issues.
