Hey, for the Karma synth rise, can you tell me what voice you used for that? You point to DD012 and I have an organ patch there. Thanks! Mark

For the riser synth, just take one of the envelopes and apply it to the oscillator pitch. The attack time can be used to rise the pitch.
To make it sound even a little cooler, put a tiny difference in the modulation amount of the envelope so each oscillator is slightly different as it rises.

For me, I just let the singers and the drummer do the vocal parts. I just play synth with aftertouch modulation, brass and riser synth.
If you increase the aftertouch modulation on the analog synth patch, then you can get that heavier modulation you hear while playing the brass lines.

While "3way scat voices" (and some of the other stock voice programs--personally I think "Ba-Da Scat Voice" is a bit closer) works quite well, an even closer version is to create a program using the multisamples "Voice-Doo" and "Voice-Male Dah" and blend the two to taste.

While not exactly what they used on the recording, (the part goes "Dah-Doo-Doo Dah-Doo-Doo Dah-Dah" in a way I can't quite figure out how to duplicate. Not yet anyway.) the result is very, very close.

But of course that's always a legitimate option! And it would represent a coming-full-circle of sorts, wouldn't it? Instead of using sampler keyboards to recreate for live performance "real" sounds put down for a recording, we can use live performers to recreate sampled keyboard parts!

It sounds to me like they sang it and then edited and looped it.

Well, it's certainly exactly the same every time around, so it was either sampled or, as Sander says, recorded and looped.

Certainly it was looped (or more likely copy and pasted on a track in ProTools) either way. Whether the original voice came from an existing sample on a keyboard or Bruno or someone sang it once? Who knows for sure.

Interesting that the tone of the voice is almost exactly that of the voice on the Kronos, but there's no sample on the Kronos that duplicates it exactly easily.

As far as singing it live goes---I tried that with my band at first but the problem is that it is such a low part that it is hard to sing well with any real projection or volume. So it actually is better and easier (for us) for me to play it on the keys.

HI all.....

I posted my question a few days ago in the Triton Studio section (because that's what I have) but haven't received any replies but perhaps you can help me out here since this section is more active and the topic is about programming "Uptown Funk".

I managed to program the rising synth sound by holding down one key but in the recording, the sound rises 3 octaves (across 3 bars) but I can only seem to get it to rise 2 octaves and as a result, the rise stops after 2 bars.

I'm very much a novice when it comes to understanding all the parameters when editing patches so there must be something I'm missing and more likely not understanding.

Here are the values I currently have. Perhaps someone can tell me what's wrong and what to adjust.

I'm subbing this month with a band that plays this song and this thread has been a big help so far in getting a combi going. One part I'm struggling with though is the bass line that walks up underneath the rising synth sound. I only noticed one reference to it in the thread, and if I understood correctly, the person was using the same vocal "doh" sound from the intro for it. I'm not sure that's correct though, to me it sounds different... more like a synth with oscillator sync or something. Has anyone set up this part?

How do you guys go about playing the brass stabs live? Have to admit nailing the brass run and then the 6 stabs manually and staying perfectly in time is a struggle. Of course, if you are a brilliant live musician then I guess it's not a problem - anyone cheated and used the power of Kronos for a perfect solution - if so what's the best method? Thanks

Personally, I do play the stabs in fast succession manually, but agree you really need to be on your game to achieve this.

I have seen another forum member who duplicated an octave by splitting the keyboard and so you can play the same notes with your left and right hands alternately, which should allow you to achieve the speed with more ease.
