e2 links, thoughts about clicks, parts transitions, workflow
Hello to electribers, I'm Mihail, I live in Rotterdam, NL. My new e2 arrives tomorrow and I'm super-excited because It'll be my first piece of hardware. Despite the reports for bugs, E2 won me for it's portability, good sound and possibility to dive-in some basic synthesis without the need of a laptop (I work as a graphic designer, spending 8-10 hours daily in front of a screen). I will be using the e2 mostly at home, after work/weekend. I don't expect it be able to support a professional live act of kind as I'm far from this level but still I would like to be able to perform my patterns as set let's say at a home-party or smth.
Wanted to share few links I found in my research and I'm sorry if they have been posted already, read the forum only back to 15-16th page..
first one is a "make a drone" video where a guy in the comment sections suggests how to get rid of the clicking sound:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjDffZtf-p8
with the actual proposed solution:
"Each step has a length, gate time or duration value of 0-96, then tie (accessed in step edit). At value 96 the gate time is exactly one step long, if tied then there is no note off and the note is held over to the next step. If you record a note held down for one bar each step will be tied to the next, if you then go into step edit and select the last step and change it's duration to tie then there will be no note off as the sequencer loops back to the first step. This means you get an indefinitely held note."
Second is a video about the type of workflow and making a continuous mix of different songs: https://vimeo.com/123518050 seems to me that this guy has really managed to treat the separate songs NOT as "standalone" pieces that require effects and manipulation in order to be mixed well, but rather than one monumental piece that has common elements throughout. Seems also that he uses a lot the strategy described here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRWc6QWhYdA (30:20) namely keeping a part that carries the effects in the next part. I also think about the Pullen guy was saying about his 30 min piece and his process and that is something I can imagine doing with the e2 - designing the transitions more like mute/un-mute rather than blending things together.
Would be nice to hear your thoughts on these!
and my apologies if they are posted before
I hope I have good times with my e2 and to want to keep it. I also hope they make an update soon:)

Welcome to the Forum!
Like you the e2 is My first piece of hardware and I hope You'll be as happy with it as me, it sounds like you've done your research and can live with all the "Crippling, deal breaking" issues that have been "discussed" in other threads!
Happy 'Tribing!

Thanks man, looking forward to it! Indeed, people often seem to be unhappy with different hardware in general, also when you check other forums.. Some just have much more experience and have developed their workflow that just doesn't fit this box. Glad that I will be able do develop my workflow on e2 without any previous "prejudices". Also being a design guy - limitations always force you being creative!
I hope you can return it for your money back so you can wait until Korg fixes the bugs and issues. Unless you want to pay for an unfinished product of course.

I'm afraid that any delays that you use as insert fx for parts will NOT carry over when you change patterns, regardless if you use dummy parts in tne next pattern. This is also true of sustaining/decaying notes, basically a hard cut is applied to the outgoing pattern at the point of changeover. There is NO audio gap between the patterns. BUT, any delays or reverbs that are on the Master FX WILL carry over. So this, along with a bit of careful programming of your parts and maybe some selective muting before changing patterns can make some very smooth and musically relevent pattern transitions.
If I'm not listening to music, or if I'm not making music, then I'm probably thinking about music.
Volca Sample, FM, Beats, Kick. OP-1, Monologue, Pocket Operators. And an ipad.

That is unless you use a long note or effect near the end of the last bar in your pattern. So with all the music you make you need to keep that in the back of your mind and tell yourself you have complete creative freedom and the E2 is amazing.apapdop wrote:I'm afraid that any delays that you use as insert fx for parts will NOT carry over when you change patterns, regardless if you use dummy parts in tne next pattern. Don't hesitate to send it back if you can't make music without any FX or long notes near the end of your patterns. Or when you encounter constant clicking and digital artifacts.mihata wrote:Yes, I can return it anytime in 60 days, which I hope will not be the case:)
For me creative freedom is also the ability always to have the good sound on my fingertips without having dedicated space for it at home etc. Thanks for the info!
I had 90 days trial period, more than 30 of those days I spend waiting for answers and fixes from Korg, none came. So I returned mine before I could't get my money back.
You're the minority thinking the DSP is actually good (I agree with you). Most fans here say the DSP isn't powerful enough and thats why you can't have trailing FX and long note decays at the end of the patterns. Which to me is BS. But until that is sorted I will not give Korg a penny.
And the voice stealing needs to be sorted too. It is silly to have 16 parts but run into voice stealing at 6-8 parts when composing. Guess everybody that runs in to voice stealing also isn't using the box correctly. 24 voice paraphony (not even proper polyphony) just isn't enough when effects and waveforms all count towards the voice count.

I'm confident you will enjoy your Electribe. Since your not that deep in the materia - a 'beginner' - I'm absolutely sure you will have fun

Korg Gear: Electribe ES-1 MKII, Electribe 2
Korg Gear I had: Electribe MX & ES-1, Kaoss Pad 2
Other stuff: Ableton Live 8, SP-303, M-Audio Mixtrack Pro, M-Audio M-Track

Sure - if I go deeper I consider expanding with volca sampler for example, some tiny midi keyboard, too bad it doesn't record from qunexus though - will be going with alesis 25 cheap one with midi out. Until then I will have something I can grab immediately and run the great sound without laptop and mess-around with it
I've just watched that Vimeo video and I think it demonstrates Very well how badly crippled this little box is and how it destroys All creativity!!
This Guy's obviously finding it almost impossible to use and doesn't appear to be having Any fun with it at all!!!
(Sorry, Sarcasm IS one of my skills... Creating patterns like That guy isn't... I'm Jealous!)
Edited for syntax

And yet after all that time you still feel it necessary to hang around forums of equipment you no longer own telling people who haven't even got it yet that they should send it back.dutchcow wrote:Don't hesitate to send it back if you can't make music without any FX or long notes near the end of your patterns.
