Only 'internal' transpose?

Post by jmol »

At our service in church I'm playing a Yamaha Avant Grand together with my Kronos. I'm using the Yamaha piano midi out to connect the kronos, using the yamaha piano sound with e.g. pad sound on the Kronos. Midi capabilities on the Yamaha are very basic. 'Local off' can be done, but isn't that practical during song playing.

Sometimes I use the tranpose function on the yamaha, which still works fine when playing the yamaha. But when I physicallly switch playing to the kronos to play this pad sound only, this won't work, because the sound will be in original key, obviously. The setlist transpose option won't work either, because this will cause a mismatch for layered playing on the yamaha. So I could play the right key in the first place  or probably make 2 setlist items (transposed and not transposed) and switch between them.
But I guess I'm looking for a some sort of 'local transpose only' setting on the Kronos. Can this be done in a global, combi or setlist option?

Hi!

There's a pitch adjustement in combi and song mode. I can't see why you couldn't copy your program to a combi, change its pitch, and put that new combi in your setlist. Perhaps I don't understand yout question.

I haven't tried this for your application specifically but in the global menu you can switch the "convert position" to pre-midi and post-midi. I think this affects velocity curves but possibly also transpose values. Worth a try.

I checked the parameter guide on this, indeed this could be the option I'm looking for. I will give it a try. Thnx!

With Global "pre midi" setting this definitely works.

Just yesterday I have transposed an external Moog Voyager sound (ext2 midi setting) without any problems.
Kronos 73 - Moog Voyager RME - Moog LP TE - Behringer Model D - Prophet 6 - Roland Jupiter Xm - Rhodes Stage 73 Mk I - Elektron Analog Rytm MkII - Roland TR-6s - Cubase 12 Pro + Groove Agent 5

Great, I don't mind switching and programming but the simpler the better, live. Thx!
