Kronos in the sun

Post by branman »

Did my first summer outdoor concert with the K88X and was concerned about it overheating - very hot day with hot sun beating down on the blackness of the Kronos. Happy to report that it reached 67 degrees internally but worked perfectly (stock factory fan) :D

This is always a major issue for me here in Oz.

I completely refuse to play in open sunshine now.
The problem is that components can get damaged but continue working with a heavily reduced life.

Can't afford keyboard replacement - would rather lose the gig.

Stay cool and safe!!

I looked at the Kronos readout - It's celsius. Can't really turn down the gig since the band relies on me being there. It is insured for all perils, so if it melts down, I can make a claim.

Problem is it could fail in 2 months time like one of my colleague's keyboards did.

But if you can make an insurance claim for it failing, then I guess that's good - wish I could get insurance like that !!!

Cheers

What I did was to cover it with 2 small white towels (left and right next to the screen)
I use a pedal to switch sounds. :)
I know it's not pretty, but I'd rather keep my Kronos safe

Korg should make a white or silver model for outdoor gigging. ;-) I have a white camera body and lenses for shooting in the high mountain deserts where the sun can fry a camera fast, not to mention the increase in noise as the sensor warms up.

I had a flashing warning on my screen while doing a gig in the sun
( fan cooling). Got very nervous.

Put white towels on the sides and shut off for a while.

Is there a way to see where the temp is at?
Outdoor gigs can be brutal if you're out in the sun with no protection.

Yes, you can see a readout of internal temperature. Under Global settings, pull down the upper right menu and it appears when you open the fan control tab.
