Well thanks for all the feedback and sorry to sound so negative.

But guess what this story gets better, are you ready for it!

I tried to go back to original software and now its stuck on boot up, it gets to the part where it says FINISHING up and goes no further.

Now this worries me, now I have lost all faith in you Kronos.
Would love to know how I get out of this one?

I have tried turning it off and turning it back on and still stuck during boot up, sequencer freezing one thing but this just tops it off :(

Again I just need to add I am vey legitimate and no troll, so please Korg if you are reading I would very much appreciate how I can have a work around this machine being stuck on BOOT up.

To repeat I have a Kronos X 73 and last week upgraded to new software however due to sequencer freezing I tried to go back to the 2.1.2 software.

I turned off to restart as it said to do now its stuck on start up or boot up during the finishing part of the boot up process.
It goes no further and its stuck!
Is there anything I can do, this thing is heavy and I prefer not to take back to the dealer who sold it to me :(

Can totally understand why you'd be feeling negative after that experience!

What version were you downgrading to?

Do you have access to a USB DVD drive?

I'm really sorry to hear that. It sounds as if this really may be an issue with your Kronos specifically. Just to be sure, this is not actually an official line of communication to Korg. Sharp started this board and manages it, although Korg USA have graciously agreed to host the place because the high traffic bothered Sharp's ISP they're not in any way officially associated with it. Contact your Korg service center if you need direct assistance. Good luck!

You can fix the booting issues using the recovery DVDs or iso images burned to a USB stick (though the latter I haven't personally tried).

Sorry if I missed it in your posts, but how old is your Kronos?

Try unplugging the Kronos power cord for a few seconds.

Then plug it back in and try to reboot.

On PCs that can bypass some problems - mainly with changing usb keyboards / mouse ports etc.

It's possible that the recent os upgrade data may be corrupt.
Suggest you download a new copy and try another re-install.

Alternatively,do a full restore by using the dvd disks as SeedyLee suggested.
Make sure you can actually use the dvd player before doing so,though and have saved your data etc.
Not sure if this can be done via usb stick(os upgrades can, obviously)….I did try once, but failed….it seems as if the Kronos will only accept a dvd player as a boot,re- installation device.

Then you can "upgrade" from the original, to whichever os you choose.

As a very last resort, consider doing an ssd format and go from there……following the information shown in the Parameter Guide pages 1135 to 1137.

Best Wishes.

to the 2.0. something. :)

USB DVD Drive yes I have one but its a MAC one and it failed to work or register that, not sure the mac dvd drive is the right option.

So are you saying plug a USB dvd drive put the recovery disc in and the Kronos should recognize it yeah?

Sorry I am not all that good on the Kronos only had it for 3 weeks :)
Thanks for all the replies

I believe the freeze in booting up has resulted from your trying to revert to the earlier OS without having the original factory PCG files loaded. It's been documented that when reverting to 2.x from 3, the system will not finish booting if it doesn't find the factory PCG files in RAM.
Your only option, AFIK, at this point is to restore the OS from the factory-supplied DVDs and then upgrade to 2.x.
Been then, done that.
Korg Kronos 73, Korg Kronos 61
Windows 10 (64 bit)
Sonar Artist, X-touch, padKontrol
In the past: Korg DS8, M1, T3, Trinity, O1W, Wavestation, Triton Extreme, Triton Studio 76

Thank you so is it a matter of purchasing an external USB DVD, inserting original DVD supplied in box, plugging it up to back of Kronos and switch it on.
It will then recoginize the startup DVD and do its thing?

I only just got it 3 weeks ago and I have no experience.
Good to hear it can be solved though.

Surely this must be in the manual -how to use DVD and startup DVDs supplied.

My biggest problem is it will not even boot so how is it going to recognize a DVD usb player??

A Kronos should boot from a suitable dvd player, with the restore disk,as a matter of default.
Do make sure you use a compatible player,as not all will work.
(There is a list somewhere on the forum....a google search may be the best way to find some).

Pages 262/263 of the manual provide some information about dvd/cd disks etc.
Plus the Parameter Guide pages 1135 to 1137,I mentioned earlier.

It is straightforward, plug and play sort of thing....then follow the prompts etc.

Try to be patient and not panic too much....... :)
You will succeed !!!

Best Wishes.

Edit.
I doubt a format would be necessary at this stage(as I previously suggested)...try the other options first.

Hang in there - it will come back! For what it is worth, I used the following to restore mine from the DVDs so I know it works and is still being sold:

LG Slim Portable DVD Writer
Model No: GP60NB50

I think it was $26 or so. Just put the recovery DVD in the player, then attach to the USB port on the back of the Kronos BEFORE powering up the Kronos. Boot order on the Kronos is DVD drive first, if it is not there THEN it boots from the internal drive.
Minimoog Voyager - DSI Prophet 12 - Sequential Prophet 6 - DSI OB-6 - Access Virus Ti2 - Korg Kronos 2 - KingKORG - Novation MiniNova - Roland JU-06 - Roland RD-700GX - Novation Bass Station Rack - EMU Proteus 2000 - Various other old musical gadgets and dodads

Thanks guys, I purchased a DVD player today. They did not have the one you guys are talking about hopefully it works.

If not I will try to locate the DVD player you recommend.
Thanks again sure it will be all fine :)

There's a separate manual detailing the procedure for updating and restoring the Kronos, it's quite informative:

https://shop.korg.com/uploads/Support/U ... os2_OM.zip

Inside the ZIP is a document called KRONOS_Update_and_Restore_E4.pdf. This should step you through the process of booting from the recovery DVDs and getting your Kronos working again.

This documentation should also be on Accessory Disc 2 (for the Kronos X).

Once booting from the DVD, you will be given the choice of:
1. Format and Full Install
2. Full Install
3. Install Factory Sounds
4. Initialize Memory

I would suggest doing a Full Install, which will preserve any data and the SSD, but completely restore the operating system, sounds and settings to factory defaults.
