some shortcut labels for e2s

Post by mabi »

Photoshopped a couple labels for shift shortcuts that I think Korg should have included:

Image

Here is a 8 1/2" x 11" 300dpi JPG... print at original size and DPI for correct fit:

I printed it on sticker paper, covered the label areas with a piece of adhesive laminate, then x-acto-ed them to size. (The extra corners are there as guides.)

There is enough to learn and remember in the workflow without having to memorize all those shortcuts too.... frustrating when Korg sacrifices functionality for sleek design.

those all gets memorised with couple of days of jamming, it's a bit of a stretch and looks bad to me.. another option is just to have those on a piece of paper while you're jamming until you memorise them

At work I have to constantly switch between different electronics and software, then I get home to my music making stuff and every piece of music hardware and software has its own button combinations and shortcuts.

I know eventually I will know the shortcuts but if you switch between synths often labels are very nice.

I don't care how it looks, I care about the end result. My favorite hardware sequencer is an rm1x and that thing is goofy looking. But when you get a piece of music out of it you love it looks a whole lot prettier.

The short cuts are great!

No matter how hard you try to memorize stuff, when you are in the middle of a live performance and in the groove, this is a huge help.

This is a great idea.

That's the neatest looking I've seen yet.
If I'm not listening to music, or if I'm not making music, then I'm probably thinking about music.

Volca Sample, FM, Beats, Kick. OP-1, Monologue, Pocket Operators. And an ipad.

Mabi, that's great.
Something like this in the user manual would be quite useful.

Mihata, doesn't really matter how it looks surely? The only person who should see this is the person playing the sampler. Anyone in the audience won't be able to see and certainly shouldn't care.

I've seen pictures of acts (including Chemical Brothers) with gaffer tape all over their keyboards and equipment writing down exactly what key plays what sample etc. They probably know it inside out, but if you're on stage and suddenly forget.... you're screwed.
When I've played I've had notes for each song showing pattern, patch etc etc.

This is a great idea. Maybe Korg didn't include this labelling because the functionality wasn't there in the original firmware.

I feel like it would have been much better if Korg allowed users to customize the shortcuts to their liking.

That would be cool indeed...

Would be so awesome to customize the shift selections. It's curious that they weren't labelled at all. I've memorized most of them at this point, or at least the ones I use most.

They weren't labeled originally because the original firmware didn't have them as features.

The labels are nice, but I also feel very comfortable with the functions after all the use.

Very nice, wish I had some sticker paper. I tried to label the pads 1 through 16 with nail polish which didn't last long. I think I'll try white out next, as having the pads labelled was a huge help for me with a lot of things.
