Question for any ESX owners.
I have a simple setup:
1) TR8 MIDI clock out to ESX MIDI in as slave (in EXT mode, not AUTO).
2) then an ESX THRU to ER1 IN on the end
TR8 and ER1, rock solid sync. The ESX is about a few ms off sync. If I use the ESX as master, its still sloppy, but less noticeable. Before I give up and sell the ESX, as I can't get it sync tight no matter what, anyone else have this issue with the ESX and how did you solve it?
Simple test that I did: Make a pattern on the TR8 with just rimshots on the 1,5,8,13, same on the ESX, if anyone can replicate it if you have a TR8 and ESX or any other drum machine for that matter and an ESX: let me know if you hear the rimshots phase or chorus, or if you hear two distinct rimshots, like a castanet? Its been driving me nuts for ages, and I'm sure its an ESX bug.
Please help...
Someone suggested I play with the start time of the rim shot sample on the ESX, I tried that, did not solve the issue. MIDI cables are all brand new, and the ER1 and TR8 and any other piece of gear I put on the chain are tight, the ESX is lagging behind whether its master or slave. As Master its a bit tighter, but still noticeably lagging.

Hello.. I have used multiple incarnations of the ESX1, MIDI synced to various pieces of hardware and software, in dozens of live situations over a period of more than ten years. I have never had sync issues with the unit, either as slave or master. I *have* had issues syncing most hardware with Ableton, but that is a known problem with Live and has nothing to do with the ESX. In short, I believe it must be a problem with your specific unit.
