Not enough memory

Post by rossb »

Hi I'm hoping someone can help. I have lately begun recording directly into the sequencer. I have noticed that the song recording ceases after about 5-7 mins of recording and I get a message that says 'Not enough memory'. I can start recording another song and it will stop after 5-7 mins and give the same message. I know these songs are going into internal memory.

Can anyone tell me what's going on? And suggest a solution? Thanks

The sequencer has a fixed amount of memory that cannot be expanded and has a maximum capacity of about 200,000 midi events.

When you enable multi-track recording the amount of memory available is divided by the number of enabled tracks, and then cut in half to allow for the compare function. So with all 16 tracks enabled you can record (200,0000 / 16) / 2 = 6250 events per track in an empty sequencer. Disable 8 tracks and you double that to 12,500 events.

If you are recording KARMA output those available midi events can be used up very quickly. When you record you should start with an empty sequencer, disable tracks not needed, and disable some KARMA modules if possible.

Not enough memory

Thanks for the quick response. Three follow-ups:
1. How do I confirm I have an 'empty' sequencer
2. No way AT ALL for expanding internal memory?
3. How do I disable the Karma modules?

Thanks again.

1. In Sequencer mode use the "Memory Status" menu command. It will show you the percentage of memory that is free. There are no songs loaded when you power on the M3 so it will always be empty at that point. After recording for a while you can use the Delete Song menu command to delete songs and then the Optimize RAM menu command to reorganize memory.

2. You cannot expand the sequencer memory. The memory expansion option is only for sample memory.

3. Press the KARMA On/Off button to turn off all KARMA modules. To turn individual modules off most combi's have set the KARMA switches 1-4 to turn on/off Modules A-D. Set the MODULE CONTROL switch to MASTER and try it. Some combi's may not be set up this way and you will have to edit it to turn them off. The Using KARMA section in the Operations Guide explains this in detail.
