New Electribe 2 vs. New Electribe Sampler
Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has purchased both new electribes or at least used both of them for a period of time. It seems there are benefits to both. If someone likes both sampling but also great synth sounds, it seems a bit difficult to pick one. Using one box to do the majority of music making seems like a fantastic idea. Hope someone has some interesting observations to share.
Also, is it worth it to purchase both of them? Or would something like a Bass Station II and Electribe Sampler make more sense?

I've got them both and can see myself using them both equally. I used to be more of a sampler person, but in all honesty i'd struggle to pick a favourite. Maybe as Tom62 said, the sampler is slightly more versatile with the onboard synth oscillators?
If I'm not listening to music, or if I'm not making music, then I'm probably thinking about music.
Volca Sample, FM, Beats, Kick. OP-1, Monologue, Pocket Operators. And an ipad.

I would recommend buying the sampler and a dedicated synth or even an iPad with some synth apps.
Just my opinion but I think both machines are horrible for synthesis. I find that I run into all kinds of frustrating limitations when trying to shape sounds.
As a drum machine, I think the sampler is good value for the money and you can use it to sequence your synth/iPad as well.

I got both new Electribe models : sampler since 4 weeks and synth since few days. I love both of them.
If I had to choose it would be hard but the sampler model would be my choice.
The "analog" oscillators (called "synth" on grey model) of the sampler are nice enough to have fun with.
I had a lot of fun creating sounds of wind, cicada and other FX with analogs oscillators.
Be carefull : on both models the audio in is stereo when using "audio in through" but only the sampler model can use mono or stereo audio in as oscillator. With the synth model only mono audio in can be used.

? When i used volca sample with panned drums came through panned correctly with Audio thu switched on.picab wrote:I got both new Electribe models : sampler since 4 weeks and synth since few days. I love both of them.

If you switch Audio Thru off and route the incoming audio through the Electribe Synth's audio engine (filters, envelopes, fx etc), a stereo signal is converted to mono.

Hi, wow, I didn't expect so many replies so quickly and with usage experience!
So of course, different people have different recommendations, that makes perfect sense. I guess I should say I already have a volca sample, which is loads of fun but as it is really rhythm only (leads, bass and chords are possible but extremely difficult to tune!) I was thinking that the electribes would be kind of like volcas for grown-ups (joking of course, but I'm sure you get where I'm going with this). I also have a volca keys. Maybe sampling it would be satisfactory for extra synth sounds? I just really don't like making music in front of a computer so that's why I am interested in the electribe series.
Another question for the people who have both electribes: is not having the MS-20, Moog, etc. filters a big disadvantage of the sampler? It sounds really cool to have a Moogish filter on the electribe (and the others as well). Or is it not such a big deal? Or should I ask: what are the main advantages of using the Electribe 2 over using the sampler?

i have the sampler edition either - while reading this:e2s has synth oscillators too
did i got this right? and the following Analog OSC's:
SAW, PULSE, TrIANGLE, SINE, UNI-SAW, UNI-SQU, UNI-TrI, UNI-SINE, SYNC-SAW, SYNC-SQU, SYNC-Tri, SYNC-SINE, HPF NOISE , LPF NOISE, LOFI NOISE, rEZ NOISE, (16 in total)
are only integerated on the electribe 2 sampler?
or are we talking about the PCM OSC's?

A big deal I don't know but filters are nice and I love the Oberheim LPF.
"Analog" OSCs of the sampler and "Synth" OSCs (of the synth) are modelized oscillators, not PCM.
16 "analog" OSCs and 54 "Synth" OSCs (Dual, Oct, Chip, Ring, X, VPM and Syn).
The PCM oscillators of the sampler are not mutisampled.
Some (many ?) PCM oscillators (like "instruments") of the synth are mutisampled and it's a big difference.
On the grey synth Electribe, turning the Oscillator Edit will add distortion or cross-fade between 2 osc or add punch on the PCMs.
On the black sampler Electribe, turning the Oscillator Edit will change start of the sample or PCMs oscillators.

sorry im pretty new to all this - so what kind of internal OSC's you called "synth oscillators" does the sampler has exactly which are missing on the electribe 2?
asking just to understand why some of you think this features making the sampler a bit "better" compared with the normal electribe 2? i guess you already told that in detail in your post but i still dont got it somehow, sorry for that.

E2: 16 + 38 Synth OSC, Filters: 6 LPF / 5 BPF / 5 HPF, unreplacable PCM percussion, instruments, vocals.asking just to understand why some of you think this features making the sampler a bit "better" compared with the normal electribe 2? i guess you already told that in detail in your post but i still dont got it somehow, sorry for that.
E2S: 16 Synth OSC, Filters: 1 LPF / 1 BPF / 1 HPF, replaceable Samples / PCM, Resampling, Audio In Sampling
Its actually up to your taste whats better. Just the E2 feels a little more "restricted". In my opinion the only advantage of the E2 is the 5 more LPF filters.
For the missing Synth OSC on the E2S, you can upload some single cycle waveform if you wanted to or controll an external dedicated synth or an app

On the other hand its hard to find as good a sampler as the E2S. The Octatrack maybe and some others, but the prize...
