Mine was fine when it arrived but now it's developed all these bits of tobacco, ash and black resiny stuff in between the buttons and the case. I'm new to hardware, is this normal?

Its one of those things that's a bit shoddy mine are almost flush with the back but I suppose the question to ask yourself is does it work as expected, if yes, keep it, if not return it.

I think it looks bad when compared to my maschine or push which are not sloppily made.

Has anyone heard anything more from dealers, or directly from Korg regarding the issue? I just received my E2S, and the top row is completely flush with the case, and I'm thinking of getting it exchanged. But if Korg doesn't even recognize it as an issue, I guess it would be better to use the money back option instead.

Oh, and hi everyone - I'm new here, and new to Electribes. :)

Beeing evenly flush with casing is not that much of a deal:

Its more of a problem, if the pads are lower the casing or keys are uneven.

Being even with surface still is a faulty one - top row should be slightly above. I have changed my E2 3 times until I get a decent one. And yes, there is quite a difference how faulty pads feel vs. the normal ones - otherwise you just can't feel you press something - no physical feedback. It will play but it doesn't feel right. I guess Korg are aware of that (they got batches sent back from distributors in Germany) but my guess is they won't do anything about it. An advice? Go to your dealer and choose a unit in person. Be aware of the following hardware flaws:

- faulty pads
- hiss noise when on powersafe mode
- wobbly unit (not even when on flat surface)

Thanks for the answers! Yes, I should send it back, probably safest with the money back option. If anyone knows which German reseller sent the faulty ones back, could you let me know (per answer or message) - ordering from them should at least make sure that the pads are not an issue, I guess. :)

Just to add weight to this being an issue,

I sent mine back via the lovely folk at GAK for a straight swap from the newest shipment (ie not from the first batch, they are due in on the 24th of this month) .

Korg seems to have played down the whole thing, happily exchanging units with no fuss but not admitting a precise problem at the same time.

faulty batch post: http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=98947

after all this.. is there a way to restart this poll and have 100% consensus that is a production fault and send it over to Korg?

Hi all, just an update,

I finally got my new replaced ES2 through the mail today ( 2 weeks after it was promised) .

I have yet to plug it in but the innitial impression is that the pads are *better*than the first batch version I had, but still not as high as my E2 , the front ones are fine and the rear this time has a row where they are all at least a little above the casing, however they get VERY close to sitting flush in the middle of the row and ALL of them are still slightly below the casing at the rear of the pads.

tonight will tell in how this feels during playing.

I noticed this too with the new ES2. Batch number between 1000-1500. The top row middle pads (4 and 5) are the most unresponsive ones and the bottom row side pads(9 and 16) has the best responsiveness.

Has someone else also noticed that you have to hit the middle pads slightly harder than the ones at side?

Sent my E2 back for hissing in power save mode. The upper row pads were also sunken. Model number >10100 <10200

The other unit in the shop has static noise with audio thru set to on and pads sunken. Similar model number. Shoddy batches all round. Next shipment is on sept 15th. Fingers crossed my replacement is sound!

Here's the official Korg statement about recessed pads. Not that it would be of any comfort...

“In many Electribe 2 and Electribe 2S, the top panel has a convex curve which means that some of the pads, especially in the centre of the top row, are close to being flush with the top panel. However, we assure you that there is no effect on the functionality of their Electribe even if the top of some or all of the pads is close to the top panel of their Electribe.
