Oh man! If I have had that problem, my B plan would be: load he original OS on the SD folder and try all the two buttons combos while powering it up to see if it has a recover mode. If not, just go to your Korg dealer and explain what happened: I was upgrading and it failed, please give me a new machine! :)

Make sure to tell your retailer that you hacked the OS.

Hmm, call me suspicious but could be a Korg employee warning people off from hacking the OS?

The best way for Korg to warn people off the hack is to preview or announce something better with a concrete date.

The tutorial has quite a few steps, some fatal. It wasn't going to be long before someone popped in here to ask for help with a bricked tribe.

Who's to say that HappyTed isn't just a sock puppet of Ted 3000? This could be a false flag conspiracy jamboree that makes Watergate look like an honest simple backyard barbecue on the 4th of July....

...or someone's hex edits had a bad byte and the machine choked on it.

Occam's Razor.

I wonder why Korg's employee shows up only when somebody wants to claim bricked by hacked os unit. Is it the only case when they want to talk to us? Was there not enough questions addressed to Korg?

Damn it, you nailed me.  :!:

I am the future you. The same, just happier!

Seriously though. I reckon it's a fake. The hack is easy, and if you do it wrong it's just gives an error.

In all honesty I haven't read the whole thread.., but I'm curious whether or not because the display is blank if button pushes and functions still work to a point.... For instance.. I'm not in front of my box but say you hit menu and 5 right arrows over is "reset" a little like battleship theoretically. All the best!
Good thought but no unfortunately - it appears hung before any OS loads - no other lights are lit or anything, just blank brightly lit screen.

Try unplugging, removing all batteries, memory card and audio/midi cables, leaving for at least 20 secs (wait a few mins to be sure), plug in power adapter only, switch back on.

Oh, and check you are using correct power supply for the Electribe ;-)

Also try lighting some incense, swinging a dead chicken, and burying a cat after midnight. You never know....

the illuminati guard their secrets jealously -

or you can go to korg tell them you tried to hack - it broke and robin domingo told you to go to them and get a brand new one.

Like, dude, it's actually what happened isn't it?

I love this place. One minute I'm being told to be nice to the poor guy who just flushed $400 down the crapper, the next people are accusing the poor sod of being a Korg plant. You can't make this s**t up!

md5 checksum request

Post by GMC#1 »

I tried to modify the files yesterday, but only found three numbers to be different in the header and not four like the hacking manual says. Could someone of you with working files (e2 to e2s and e2s to e2) provide the md5 checksums of these files. People like me would then be able to check if we messed up the editing part before we brick our unit.

You could use http://onlinemd5.com to find out the checksum of both files. [-o<

I love this place. I'm asking for a checksum to make sure to not flush $400 down the crapper. The answer I get is a picture of a toilet. You can't make this s**t up!
