Korg Kronos signal noise ratio

Post by Nicux »

Hi folks, I tell them that's what happens with my Kronos. I have a noise problem, and evidence discovered by a noise signal ratio is -66db and reading specifications should be - 95 db.I wanted to ask if anyone ever tried it. and how much noise you hear in your Kronos. I clarified that this probe with the volume knob to the minimum.
sorry for my English. Thank you!
(I tried it with soundforge 11)

Measuring noise down to 95dB below wanted signal requires great care, since such noise levels are tiny. An SNR of 95dB is less than a billionth of the wanted signal.

The noise may not be coming from the Kronos itself, but instead being picked up by the audio cabling, either induced by external electromagnetic fields, or by cable microphonics. There may be hum loops. The PC sound card may be introducing noise. That sort of thing.

Through headphones, my Kronos is pretty quiet. Some effects, like compression and distortion can introduce noise. The Leslie emulation introduces noise. Some mixers can be quite noisy and best kept out of the audio chain for critical measurements like this.

I understand what you say, but what I need to know is whether you connect it to a PC, which noise level reaches. I commented that Kronos is the problem, as it does everywhere where I connect. pc, live, etc ..
I will upload an audio with noise.

Often ground loops can become an issue when connecting to a PC. I would recommend using an isolator or DI to connect. I've noticed the noise is dramatically lower.

Check your volume sample inputs on the back of your Kronos. I bet they're set to high, which causes a noise on your lines.

I've had my Kronos X for over a year now. It's one of the quietest, if not THE quietest, keyboards I own. Your noise problem is definitely not due to the Kronos itself, unless your analog outputs have developed a probelm that requires replacement.

How did you record this sample into your computer? It seems to me you have at least 25dB of headroom left.

I cannot really hear any noise over and above my own soundcard's noise floor which, admittedly, isn't very low. What I can hear sounds very similar to my own soundcard's noise.

I normally listen to the Kronos using in-ear phones with the volume set to about the 9 o' clock position, which is plenty loud enough for me. If I turn the volume control to max, I still can't hear any noise, and any sounds made by playing even a quiet note are ear-damagingly loud. The exceptions are when using intrinsically noisy effects like distortion.

Hi folks, sorry for the delay in answering. First of all thank you for taking the time to listen to audio. I tell them that this noise does in any situation. live is very annoying, I have to tell the soundman to lower the gain in the mixer and place the keyboard at a high volume so that the noise floor is not heard too high (besides having to lower the noise with a DI). This keyboard buy an importer in Argentina and they do not listen to the problem and do not take care of the arrangement. so I'm trying to get some idea of it can be. I opened it and realized it was modified. Kronos was normal and had a motherboard of x. I guess in changing something went wrong! definitely not my pc and I usually burn it and never heard anything unusual. (I have a sound card M-Audio Audiophile 2496) and cables are in perfect condition. I have the service manual but the do not see anything that is loose or in poor condition. It is very rare but well I hope one day I can fix it. I definitely think it's an electrical problem as it does with the minimum or maximum volume and is indistinct. and check the input volumes, and are low.

Did you check your inputs on the Kronos as mentioned above? This has caught me by accidentally moving the knobs while moving.

If you have problems in other situations it sounds like there may be something wrong. But you can't record through the analog connections of a medium quality soundcard, with 25dB headroom to spare, and conclude the SNR of the Kronos is 66dB. In a live situation, I usually have my keyboard's volume at about 75 percent, if that helps.

you can also disable the inputs (of the back) in the global setting.
Try this please, that could also help.

One important thing is to use TRS balanced jacks cables (This will eliminate all the common mode noise).
It was drastically efficient on my equipment: Kronos linked to a M-AUDIO C600.

Cheers :D

I check and disable inputs before and it was not that.

I am now more confused because on Thursday I connect directly to a keyboard amp and also on studio monitors and makes no noise !! nothing!!!

but yesterday I went to play live, and much noise was heard.
I had a m3 before and never had problems in the same places where I'm playing live, and not on my PC neither.

Obviously is a keyboard problem, but I can not find it.
I should test with balanced cables. It is the only thing missing me.
But I do not understand why I have so many problems with this keyboard and never with others.
