Power via MIDI
i'm not sure if this midi thru device would work with the kross. it says it's powered via midi, but i'm not sure if the kross sends out power/current via midi to make this work. any idea?

The Kross indeed DOES send power through the MIDI port! It's great!
I am using the mi.1 MIDI wireless interface with my app unrealBook. Just tested it right now and it works perfectly.
Also if in Favorites mode - just sending C0 00 will select first patch, C0 01 will select 2nd etc... awesome!!!!

aron, would you have any idea about the voltage rating on the midi ports? the MIDI Solutions Quadra Thru i was planning on getting requires 5V. i looked up the specs of the mi.1 and it can work on either 3.3V or 5V. if the Kross does give out 5V, then maybe the Quadra Thru will work for me. the last time i tested the voltage of the Kross using a meter, it gave out less than 1V, but i'm not sure if it pumps more juice if a load is present. any thoughts?aron wrote:The Kross indeed DOES send power through the MIDI port! i used a standard digital voltage meter. but since there is no "load", that may be the reason i did not get a proper reading. i sent an inquiry to korg and got a response from them today. you are correct: the kross will give out voltage via midi ports-- 5V!aron wrote:How do you measure it? I would assume it's 3.3v. Especially since it's run on batteries.

That sounds great. Two additional questions:
- do you know how much mA the USB port supports?
- is a special USB cable needed?
I am using a MIDI controller which needs a USB power supply with 5 V and min 200 mA. When I connect the controller to the KROSS using a standard USB cable nothing happens.
Thank for you help an support!

the kross's usb port does not send out any voltage. did you want to control the kross using a midi controller via usb? unfortunately, that's not possible-- at least not directly.RedKross2014 wrote:That sounds great. Two additional questions:

what you could do is, connect your midi controller and kross to a computer, and route the midi signal to go from your midi controller to the kross.
or, if your midi controller has a 5-pin midi out, you can plug it directly to the kross's 5-pin midi in. but your midi controller has to get power somewhere (power adapter or batteries).

I use occasionaly a LED light connected by USB, works perfectly.
Recently I boiught an 88 key master keyboard powered by USB, directly from Kronos. Always works perfectly.
I didn't try it together, but I assume it is no problem either.
