Waxestation SR- Battery Change

Post by biodad »

Greetings.
Bought one of these used with no manual but Korg is usually easy for me to figure.

Message says battery needs changing. Before I open it up, is it the kind where you simply pop in a new battery or is it an unsolder and resolder the socket in job?

Also, do I want to keep it plugged in and turned on if it is a pop in type?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Looks like it's a CR2032 coin cell that just slots into a holder on the PCB.

Well I got lucky there.
Do I have to have it on and powered up to do
this or can I re-initialize it back to factory?

Sorry to keep asking questions but reloading? Is this a situation where I have to use midi ox or some other out in space program that I can't figure out?

I tried midi ox once with a different synth and there are 3 or 4 files that come up. Which to pick? It is presumed by midi ox and other companies that we have a basic understanding of this stuff and I dont. I cant look at the files and tell which one to click or why or what.

Reinitialize alone use to be all a person needed to do. Why doesn't reinitialize set everything back as it does on other synths? No need to answer that one. I'm too old and dont know any young kids who know all this stuff so I might be screwed after I install the new battery.

Please clarify the 2 steps and if I need to use midi ox.
Thanks

Initialization wipes the RAM and prepares it for reloading of the data. The procedure for doing that for the SR is covered in both of the first links I provided.

Once initialized, the RAM has to be reloaded. The third link covers all Wavestation banks available here, while the fourth link is specific to the SR factory preload.

Yes, you would need to use MIDI-OX or some other means of sending the SysEx data to the SR, and of course a MIDI interface appropriate for your computer.

I never change batteries in my gear while they're powered (even though I frequently troubleshoot equipment with the power on). I'll let someone else comment on whether that's practical with the SR.

As to the need for "young kids who know all this stuff", I haven't been one of those for about 6 decades. :)

I wish I had your smarts. I emailed some musicians locally to see if they can figure this stuff out.

I also need to figure out how to save my programs and creations to the computer for reload use later. I will find someone who will help me with this.

Your advice and digging up the links will come in handy.
Thank you.
