well considering I see used E2S's on ebay for as low as $230 now I reckon korg are trying hard to plug the hole

ill keep my old firmware and dual boot thanks, nothing in this update for me anyway

From a cruise through the Facebook group looks like there's no problems with trackpad for other people. So it's probably just me and/or my perceptions are off, which is overall just fine and a good thing! I thought I had put enough caveats in my earlier posts because I wasn't 100% certain of this... guess not.

If I had thought this question would have spread out across the firmware update discussion as quickly as it did I wouldn't have posted anything. Oops.

No, it's good to post caveats. Dude if it turns out it was amiss then hey at least we know for sure. It would have been terrible for someone to say nothing and then we upgrade only to find out that there is a problem. Here we have a reason to be concerned. If I had upgraded and the track pad failed to operate the way I expect it to, I would have been so PISSED!!!! Because of you, I saved my self from being upset. Another user confirmed your finding's.

Now since it seems that others are not finding the same issue I might take a chance on my ES2 and then compare my findings with the E2.

Can you go over your experience and figure out what you were having trouble with? Think about what has really changed.

So... is there any active user who can try this? They cannot code a blockin firmware. Maybe there is some lines we have to mod but of course u will be able to do the mod. For sure. If they are spending their time with this and not with improvements.... they are losing money...
Lots of money....
Maybe we cam sue them now. Wtf?

Abso-fricken-lutely nothing. Exactly same behavior as before. This was the only reason I updated my E2S.

That's how it behaved in the previous OS.

Seems the main goal of this update is to prevent OS swapping.

Perhaps stores pushed Korg to put a stop to the swappable OS because that meant stores couldn't sell the synth AND the sampler. People would just buy the synth and get the sampler for free with the OS hack = lost sales for stores.

Understandably, stores would be pissed off because they bought the synths AND the samplers from Korg with the idea that they could resell the synths AND the samplers to us customers.

With the OS hack, stores would be left with tons of samplers on their shelves, which Korg would have to buy back. And stores could use that experience in future deals with Korg to demand lower wholesale prices on any future grooveboxes, which would mean Korg would be LESS LIKELY to make a follow-up groovebox

ON THE OTHER HAND: This update implies that Korg is still shipping the new Electribes, albeit with the newest software to prevent the hack from working.

If Korg indeed is still shipping the new Electribes, perhaps that means they plan to support the gray and black boxes with at least one more update.

They'd better, because ...

... WITH THE HOLIDAYS COMING UP, Korg Electribe synths are about to get their asses severely kicked by the cheaper, more fun, easier to use Novation Circuit. By all accounts, it's easy to use, produces great results and is about to get a software editor to let you create your own sounds and manage your sequences and scenes.

Sure, E2 has 16 paraphonic tracks, each of which can be a synth or a drum. Circuit can't touch that.

HOWEVER, Circuit has NO menu diving, which makes pattern creation dead simple ... and FUN! It doesn't need a workaround like the user-created Step Jump Record Mode. Circuit -- can you believe this? -- actually COPIES AND PASTES sequences from one place to another. And no menu diving to change gate time (which means it's faster, more fun, and easier to jam/perform with) and ...

... MOST IMPORTANT, it APPEARS Circuit doesn't cut off patterns/effects when switching patterns (at least from videos I've seen/heard).

I'm for sure picking up a Circuit to go along with my Electribe Sampler, which I may wind up dumping since I have an Octatrack anyway. The janky Step Jump Mode Record (better than nothing. Thanks and much respect to the user who came up with it!!!) and the lack of a Threshhold Sampling Option have gotten old, so I don't use it as much anymore.

What does it all mean? PERHAPS KORG HAS ONE MORE UPDATE UP ITS SLEEVE, to keep the Electribes from getting slaughtered during the holiday sales period by Circuit. If that's the case, Korg has just one option:

LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS, PLEASE.

I believe you guys, but I can't tell. Generally OS updates can help with weird encoder behavior - jittery pots are scanned and averaged, small jitters ignored, etc.

Since the XY pad isn't measuring depth of pressure I'm not sure how they'd make it more or less sensitive.

The hazy language used in these release notes is the cause of half the world's problems.

In my case (E2), I'd say my touchpad improved from 1.10 to 1.17. For me, the needed force to trigger seems to be the same as with 1.10, but with touchpad calibration I got rid of a nasty dead spot on the bottom-left.

Actually, something happens with the tied notes editing feature. When you have 2 notes, and your first note is tied to the second, and both are for example on c2; when you change one of the notes to g2, the other note Goes to g2 too. If hou want to d a glide, you have to untie the notes first or something like that. ITS hard to explain, but it can me the workflow a little bit faster, but sometimes you dont want that automatic funxtion..

OK, I wish it would just put up a message asking if I want to save edit changes before changing the pattern, but I'm quite happy with this.

Now Mr. Fumblefingers here can edit things after having a couple of beers. Which I never did before.

i really wish they could just make the electribes open source or something

needa start a petition or something...i see a lot of great ideas on these forums and its a shame to know that korg will probably just ignore them.

And they'd ignore a petition just as well sooo......

Accept that at best the features it shipped with might work properly some day, new features are highly unlikely.

i mean more to make the electribes open source rather than to add new features but you are probably right either way

Nice one ! A prelude to transpose function ?

Did anyone notice a shorter gap when switching pattern ?
I don't know if I'm wrong but it became hard to hear.
