Headphone splitter works as midi splitter!

Post by subluxator »

I'm not sure if this is common knowledge, if it is, no need to shame me.

But to those wishing to control multiple external midi gear, a simple headphone splitter appears to work fine as a midi splitter. I'm able to control both my MicroBrute and iPad (via Griffin Studio Connect) from the electribe without issue.

I was about to order a midi thru box, but this just saved me $50.

I see no reason why it wouldn't work with midi IN as well. Cheap workaround for the missing midi THRU.

Ah crap! I forgot to show this off. Yes, head phone splitter is a great way to send E2 midi to ES2 and a 3rd source like your KP3. I have this set up in my rig.

Can you daisychain headphone splitters to control even more MIDI devices? Is there a degradation of the signal when you split?

when yu say headphone splitters - you dont mean those little belkin rockstar gadgets you use for syncing volcas and sometimes on microbrutes on the matrix section?

There will be a degradation, you will eventually reach a point where it won't work anymore.

Ah man, and to think I wasted 40 quid on a Midi thru box before tying this! Great find. I've run out of midi thru connections already so this might allow me to expand further ...

The thru box is the proper way to do it, if that's any consolation....

I've not paid more than $20 us for one with less than four ports though. I don't buy them new either...
