I don't like posting opinion posts here, but the game boy doesn't have pitch bend over midi but that hasn't stopped chiptune artists have crazy pitch effects or anything.

The ms-20 requires patching for pitch bend (and has no midi at all), the wavedrum has no midi either, I mean if you wanted a synth with that why not get a microkorg?

I think if korg made a complaint to midi converter these kinds of posts would be warranted, but who buys a product without checking the freely available manuals out? buyers remorse isn't really Korgs fault.

A groove box is a special type of thing, people think they are like daws in a box or super advanced, they are instruments, with their own quirks and sound pallets and flaws. You have to learn to play them, not sit around and complain about drawbacks. I mean I wish my digital pianos reverb sounded better, and had more pedal inputs, but complaining won't make playing Chopin sound better.....

What if.. hypothetically speaking of course.. KORG went ahead and put out a new product called the MS20 mk2. Then, after every MS20 owner was all excited because they were finally getting a modern, upgraded version of the gear they know and love, KORG announced that it was not analog, lacked every beloved feature and was basically a General MIDI piece of garbage in a box, but KORG added some flashy lights and made it polyphonic? Then, after all the decades-long, loyal fanbase complained about it, some newb got on the forums telling everybody to simmer down, that it's not the tools that make the musician, yada yada and so on..

Because that's a little closer to what has been going down these last months.

I guess I never thought of this as an EMX Mk2 but more like what Roland did with the Jupiter range. It's entirely new and different product in a range of other products. but because of too much focus on a name it seemed like it was doomed from the start sadly. But this always happens when companies change focus, as a once devout Reason (since reason 4) user I went through all this when 6.5 came about and everything got changed. My point is a lot of people complained and it didn't solve a thing, I too disliked the changes but I just changed software. The complaining just becomes toxic, and becomes a chore to shift through when you just want to read and learn things.

But this isn't the point of this thread, I mean yeah the midi implementation is poor but it's one of the few things well documented in the manual. Again buyers remorse, not doing research, and assumption aren't really Korgs fault, neither are they faults of an entirely new instrument.

Ps. I've been keepin up with this since the electribe came out, guess that's why I decided to chime in. Because this "complaint" just seems completely misdirected.

lol don't let the facts get in the way of your straw man argument will you? Sounds like it would be more appropriate in a Roland Boutique thread....

I have never owned one of the older Electribes.

However, Sauce has made a very succinct point earlier. If Korg have released an upgraded Electribe you'd expect Electribe users to think it will do certain things.

I use Ableton Live but i'm a few versions behind. If i found it no longer did (for instance) warping, or that you lost session/ arrangement view I would be surprised and disappointed.

On the plus side - I have never owned an older Electribe and i enjoy my sampler as I'm happier hitting buttons like a chimpanzee pumped up on bananas than I am clicking my mouse while looking at a midi grid.
Korg MonoPoly, APC 20, Ableton Live, NI Massive, Bass Station rack.

I'll hear no more dissing of the bling lights please. Owners of the new electribes, mains power your unit and place it on a glass topped table in a dimly lit room. Your crotch will transform into a multi coloured disco dance floor. Useless? Maybe not as useless as the yellow LED they put in the ESX/EMX to simulate the valves glowing as they imparted that legendary "analogue warmth and grit" to the audio output.

And the new bling lights seem to function as a crude level indicator as well... :)
If I'm not listening to music, or if I'm not making music, then I'm probably thinking about music.

Volca Sample, FM, Beats, Kick. OP-1, Monologue, Pocket Operators. And an ipad.

Yes, that is actually what I was thinking of, even as I typed.

I love the bling lights, makes it feel like a prop from the tron movies.

And dont get me started with jupiter 80, its one of the most amazing romplers ever made. And you can buy a jp08 for less then an e2. And theres the jdxa wich is incredible sounddesign tool. As well as the system1.So boohooing over rolands recent products is just silly imo.

Korg started fresh when designing these new ones. Actually quite similar to rolands mc series, where they started from scratch with every version.
Its actually a very ballsy approach to product development (referring to the mcs, as im know very little about what korg thought when making the tribes), spending a lot on r&d ensuring innovation while taking chances fiscally.

I keep thinking, if i had my e2 and went trhough a time machine and gave it to quincy jones, or teddy riley or marley marll, they would all piss theyre pants.

This. Also: You know what is "just wow" ? The OP could've known all of the issues, but he still bought one.

Actually, no. The website doesn't state that they've removed the note copy/move/transpose ability from the Electribe series. Neither does the manual.
Neither does it mention the midi channels can't be changed.

The things most people are "slightly upset" about are features that have been in grooveboxes for over 20 years now. Standard features. Features that the previous 12 Electribes had / supported.
Stuff that is *expected* to be there - like strings on a guitar, or keys on a piano.

I mean - if every machine in the last 20 years could do these basic things - fancy new machine in 2015 should at least be able to get those basics right... right?

Now, open your E2 manual again, and open your Electribe EMX manual.
If you compare the two, you'll notice that the new Electribe manual is only a shadow of the manual of the EMX with only minimal information.
The Parameter Guide wasn't even included in the box.

So for new Electribe users I can understand why they're wondering why people are complaining about their wonderful machine.
But people who've used the previous 12 versions of Electribe extensively are basically wondering who decided to actually *remove* all kinds of useful features from the Electribe series.
And you won't read about what they've *removed* on the specifications page.

I don't know if I'd compare the "missing/removed" features of the new Electribe to a guitar's strings or piano's keys. You can still make fantastic things without those supposed missing features. Without strings or keys you can't make anything.

The new Electribes are different. They have different features than the older versions.

We can argue all day long about how a company f***ed up the marketing of a product, but at the end of the day, whatever is released is released and nothing can change that now.

The new Electribes are perfectly capable of making good music. Whether or not they have the same features of their predecessors doesn't matter. They arguably sound better and have added better features. You can make good music on them.

I dunno, things get put under the microscope too much nowadays. Just make music, move on or put forth actually constructive criticism.
