RX noise level issue??

Post by engineerjoel »

When I trigger patches from the SV1 using an external Midi controller, the RX noise level for each patch is way too over exaggerated—very clankety-clankety sounding

But, when I play the same patches directly from the SV1’s keyboard the RX noise is almost non-existent. What would be causing this phenomenon?

thanks,

I suspect that there may be something odd with the velocity being sent from your MIDI controller.

I think that the RX noise is constant, but the actual note gets louder or softer with the received velocity. So if your MIDI controller is sending very low velocity values, then that would perhaps explain the problem?

Can you capture the MIDI data being sent and check the velocity somehow?

what happens if you set touch sensitivity to 8, do you get the same issue?

hello,

(excuse my poor english, I'm french)

I have the same problem, and recorded a video with a camera for a french forum : very well mean that RX noise is stronger while playing with midi on a MP4 keyboard :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDrOGT7_3UQ

I alternate SV-1 (right hand) and MP4 (left hand) trying to have the same dynamic.

1st series: the noise to a minimum volume (-5): no RX noise
2nd series: the average noise volume (0): very slight RX noise with the SV-1 on release, light using the mp4
3rd series: maximum noise volume (5): slight noise with the SV-1, loud on the MP4

I end with a single note played pianissimo.

another detail :
- on press : normal RX noise with velocity
- on release : louder RX noise, no velocity

It seems to be an issue on key release via MIDI only.

Can you use a MIDI monitor program on a PC to see what the SV-1 produces when you release a key, versus what the MP4 produces?

The Note On and Note Off message within the MIDI standard both have a velocity component. It's ignored by most keyboards, but it sounds like the SV-1 is using that value to determine the volume of the release RX noises. Probably the SV-1 is producing low values of release velocity, whereas your MP4 is producing high values for release velocity?

I could try, but I don't know any MIDI monitor program able to do this.
Have you a suggestion for Win7 ? (freeware or open source, please  )

I founded this :
http://www.forum-pianoteq.com/viewtopic.php?id=384
I found that there are no Yamaha, Kawai or CASIO modells that transmit or receive Noteoff Velocity.
It seems you're right : my MP4 must send wrong note off values (probably 64, as many keyboards) and it must be louder than the real value)

well... never mind, I won't serve my SV-1 as an expander anymore

MIDI-OX is free, but they do ask for a donation http://www.midiox.com/

You could also record MIDI into any DAW/sequencer and open up the event editor.
