New Electribe 2 MIDI Questions
I've asked this question a few times (both here and in some of the video demos being posted) and haven't received a response yet, so I figured I'll start a new thread specifically for MIDI related questions and answers.
Feel free to answer and/or pile on additional MIDI related questions, so as more people start getting these new Electribes, this can eventually be the go-to thread for all MIDI info.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Using the new Event Recorder feature, can the Electribe record notes being received from MIDI IN on all sixteen channels?
Q: When playing back a saved data file with the Event Recorder, does the machine still send MIDI OUT information?

Great idea to open a specific thread for MIDI questions
Q: The maximum number of voices per part is 4. Is the part's polyphony also limited when I use this specific part for external gear only? With other words: Is it possible to record more than 4 notes at once when the part controls an external synth (which of course must be able to play more than 4 notes)?

Q. When you set "Clock Mode" to "Ext.Sync", does the machine convert the incoming sync signal into a MIDI OUT clock signal?

More important for me...
If you controlled it from an external midi sequencer/groovebox does it play multitimbral and does it record all tracks at once or is it going to be omni mode and painfully slow to get a groove going like it is on gadget?
Can you assign a midi channel to the pad/track ( so track 1 which I assume would be midi channel 1 could be changed to midi channel 9 for example? ).
Can you change the midi notes on the 16 pads.
All 3 questions above were possible on the EMX and I hope for the same.

Q: CCs..Can the motion sequencer transmit them?
(Can the event recorder?)
Now some speculation .@Re-Member ,my Monotron with midimod does send midi clock when fed a sync signal so maybe . @Tom 62 -my guess its 4note poly per part ,even via midi.like 16 channels of MicroKorg(sort of). @markxl1 -It's all hard wired to which part you select. So midi channel is fixed and only one part record at a time. Change notes with scale and octave features.
This is all speculative of corse.

Another one for the list here...
Q: Does the Gate Arp send MIDI OUT broken up as individual notes? I've had some gear in past where holding a note with an arp on would only send a single sustained note through MIDI OUT, hopefully that won't be the case here.

Re: New Electribe 2 MIDI Questions
I have a few deadlines coming up so I can't record the demos or answer all the questions straight away, but I'll start slowly going through them.
What I've tested so far (firmware 1.03):
Electribe 2 sends and receives MIDI note data for 16 parts on 16 corresponding MIDI channels. You can't reassign the channels though.
One thing I've noticed about the event recorder is that you still can trigger the parts (using pads, XY or external MIDI) during it's playback. So you actually can play over the event recorder. In fact, I was even able to tweak some parameters during the playback, but that needs further testing.

Unfortunately, during the Event Recorder playback the electribe does not send any of the recorded MIDI. So if you're using your electribe to sequence external gear, the event recorder in its present state will be completely useless for you.Re-Member wrote:Q: When playing back a saved data file with the Event Recorder, does the machine still send MIDI OUT information?

Re: New Electribe 2 MIDI Questions
MSix_Anthony,
Thanks for all that info!
I've been really wanting to know more about how the machine handles MIDI info in/out of it's sequencer. You've been the first to stab at it with a fine pointed ice pick.
The fact that the Event Recorder can record external MIDI notes on all 16 parts is EXTREMELY good news to me. This means the Electribe can be set up to act as a 16 part sound module, then using either a DAW or external sequencer, you can "Event Record" an entire song's worth of notes onto a single pattern if you wish.
So now another question, haha...
You mentioned that when you are playing back an a "Event File", it doesn't send MIDI OUT note information. But does it least send MIDI OUT tempo clock information on it's Global channel? And does the Sync Out jack send out an appropriate tempo as well while playing the file? If I can least tempo sync other gear up to the machine via MIDI clock or Sync jack to an Event Recorder playback file, that would be great. I think someone earlier here said the Event Recorder still sends clock data, but confirming this again would be good news.
Thanks again for the info update! I'll most likely be purchasing one now.

OK-- I just got some midi cables and I want to use my Yamaha QY70 to control my E2. The problem is I am stupid. I set the QY to internal sync and the E2 to external Midi and nothing happens when I hit Play on the QY. Did I miss something or is it possible my Korg Midi reducer cables are shot (like I've heard happens)
They are both second hand devices, BTW, that operate just fine by themselves. They just don't seem to be communicating.
I have a blank "pattern" template set up on the E2 with pads 1&2 assigned to the input audio (which is the QY sound out) and the rest of the pads are set to synth sounds. Additionally, I have the midi cables setup correctly.

Drops drip from the drain of the decaying detonator on the doomsday device---- delayed
Anyone got an answer to this??
"Q: The maximum number of voices per part is 4. Is the part's polyphony also limited when I use this specific part for external gear only? I appreciate each part is limited to 4 voices at once but is the MIDI out for that channel limited to 4 notes at once too?
I assume that if I use a part for MIDI out only, I still have use a voice for that channel - and therefore reduce the voice count by 1 or more? Is that correct? Is there anyway to get around this and not reduce the voice count for each MIDI note played?
And how about the CC out? Is that limited/limiting?

I have a tip for that issue. You could set the part oscillator to "audio in". Electribe continue transmiting midi notes, without using DSP resource, freeing poplyphony.Scoridd wrote:Anyone got an answer to this??

The sequencer only records 4 notes at once, so yes, the part's polyphony is limited to your external gear too.Tom 62 wrote: Q: The maximum number of voices per part is 4. Even if you try to live play a 5 note chord to an external synth or sequencer, without recording to the e2s sequencer, the limit is 4.
The 5th note causes the 1st note to drop.
edit:
I guess I should mention I am on version 1.05 of the e2 sampler. the original os that came with my machine.
