Operating system upload risks?

My machine has the 2012 1.5 OS, and works just fine
Are there many benefits from uploading the latest version? More importantly, after many many problems following the uploading of computer operating systems, I am wary of changing the Pa3x system. Has anyone had any problems with a loss of user created performances, songs, styles and sounds after uploading a new system from Korg?

Hi cautious John,
Personally I have never experienced any problem with the upgrade proces on my Pa3X.
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is not the case, cause the latest OS provides you with more, better or new functions, so really an upgrade of your Pa3X.
Going from v1.5 to v1.63 (latest OS) gives you 40 memories per bank (was 32), adds some new sounds and the option to stop a pad by pressing it a second time (this was important to me).

You have reduced some of my anxiety.  However, I have one more detailed question. I have a large number of modified styles saved in a fav/user folder, and modified performances saved in the factory performance folders in addition to a large number of songs saved in the khd-user space. These represent many many hours of work. Can you confirm that these will remain unchanged by the uploading of a new operating system?
NB I recently made a full resources backup onto a usb drive. However, I have never tried to reload such a file.

Favourite and user areas should remain untouched by the upgrading process. Personally I have never engaged any problem, always flawless.

However, it is ALWAYS good practice to save your work prior to actions that might corrupt your precious work, so....
In your case you should perform a save action, to save your modified styles and performances. The songs you stored on the HD are save until the HD breaks down. I have not heard about such a malfunction on this forum ever before.

That sounds re-assuring. When you say I should perform a 'save' function. Is that different from the full resources backup to USB that is described in the user manual?

Yes it is different.

Just go into Media mode >> Save tab>> All >> New Set >> name it and save - this will save all your favourites and USER data including performances.

Just in case any other rookies have been watching this thread - I am happy to report that the upload went entirely smoothly and I was able to reload all of my user data using the method mentioned above and described in the user manual.
