How to crossfade with pedal?

From this wonderful forum I learned how to crossfade between two sounds with a userknob using two stereo compressors in two IFX slots.
Now I tried to use the food pedal instead of a user knob. I can select the padal as source for the Output Level of the Stereo Compressor but it does not work.
The damper pedal works. Of course it can do hard switches only.
Any idea how to use the pedal?
