Kronos ----- My trials continue -- Factory Reset

Post by 96th_Malice »

So I've gotten a little more used to weighted keys and decided that I'd take a look through the sounds that came on the Kronos

I bought it used from our largest music store .... It had never been sold BUT was used as a rental for a grand total of 6 months between 2 different people

It's amazing how many programs and combis they changed / edited over that time ( I'm comparing to the online manual with all the factory presets )

Anyways I did a factory reset on PCG so I could start from scratch and perhaps start installing sounds of my own .... There is a second 240 Gig hard drive in the Kronos just screaming to be filled

Anyways .... I used Factory / Preload / pcg as stated

My first 4 pianos A000 - A003 make no sound

MOST of my combis are not what's shown in the manual ..... In fact most if the stuff renamed is in a foreign language and ALL CAPS ( not Korg anyways )

So .... First off why either of these guys would write over factory presets is far beyond me BUT that doesn't matter now I guess

Where can I download all the factory Progs / Combis so I can get my keyboard back to its original state ?

Thanks again all

Hi,
at this moment I'm having some probs with my Kronos2.
Ive tried to solve the problem by doing a factory reset.
I just made my way to the hard drive...found the locked factory folder...opened it, found the PCG and loaded it...re the instructions via u tube.
It did however replace everything as should be....obviously not in your case.
My problem hasnt been solved either...so I ve contemplated doing a full reset
via the 3 Korg discs that were shipped with my kronos.....but Korg warn quite heavily against doing this, so I will only do it if really neccessary.
Someone with a lot more knowledge than me will get back to you, but be aware of doing a total reset.
Niven.

Mine took a car drive back to the music store last night

:D

I'm gonna let the Korg guys solve my problems ..... Too much spring cleaning to be messing with a keyboard.

Do you have the CD's? If you do, you dont need to do a full restore with them. Disc 3 contains some files including the orignal Factory files. Kronos 2.

I loaded my cd files onto the desktop computer and then loaded the files from the computer onto a USB stick and plugged that into my Kronos with memory to spare for personal files. All three cd's took up less than 20gb of memory. And that includes the video manual.

Im not sure if that USB memory will ever be able to do a full restoratin of the system because the user guide says specifically to use a CD driver connected to kronos via USB. But i downloaded the last software update into the USB stick and loaded it into the kronos. So maybe it is possible but i have no need to find out the hard way.
Either way, i have it all on USB stick and keep my CD's in safe storage.
The CD files include a factory file which is now on my USB and i am sure it will load up normally because it appears and opens up and plays in disk mode exactly like the internal memory factory file.

So if you have the CD's(cd-3), there is a way to extract the factory file from that and load it up without doing a full reset of the Kronos.
I wonder if those files can be emailed from the computer. ? The software update came via a link for down load and even sound sets come via a link to download content. :?:

My music store called me yesterday ..... Kronos could be gone for 2-4 weeks

They have a new Kronos X 61 that is retailing for about 800 more than my current Kronos 73 is and they would be willing just to swap the 2

Advantages ?

- I'd have a Kronos again within a couple days
- Well there would be no more contact strip issues
- I wouldn't have to get used to weighted keys
- I already have ample hard cases for 61 note keyboards

Disadvantage ?

- I'm without a Kronos for possibly a month
- Getting used to weighted keys again after 25ish years sucks
- I really purchased the BIGGER 73 note keyboard to replace my live rig consisting of Krome 61 and Triton Le 61.
- I have a feeling with The Kronos X61 I would still lug around a 2nd synth with me to gigs ( Krome )
- I still need to purchase a hard case for the Kronos 73 .... Ya that should set me back another 400-500 CDN

I really like the bigger keyboards .... I just wish Kronos 73 followed the route of my OASYS and went with semi weighted keys

Oh well .... I have a coup,e days to think about it

If you do decide to go with the 73 Kronos, make sure that your case has wheels. Trust me on this. I have one and I build cases for a living too.
