Tuning gone mad!
Moderators: Sharp, X-Trade, Pepperpotty, karmathanever
Lets end this once and for all.
Here are the sample programs:
http://aronnelson.com/kronos/pitch/pitches.PCG
The main one is called TRI LONG
Play it over and over and you may convince yourself that the pitch is rising.
Here is the reference file: http://aronnelson.com/kronos/pitch/One% ... Kronos.mp3
HOWEVER:
With tuner in Logic, you see it does not rise at all:
http://aronnelson.com/kronos/pitch/Pitc ... 0Tuner.m4v
Not only that, with an oscillator reference pitch (set to the same pitch) you do not hear beating. Anyone that is familiar with pitches knows that 2 pitches even slightly out of tune will induce beating. You hear NONE.
http://aronnelson.com/kronos/pitch/two% ... es%20C.mp3
There is no rise in pitch despite your ears tricking you into thinking there is.
There is no "global" pitch modulation happening on the release - you can hear this program has a long release and there is no pitch rise.

Hi,
I've put a singular triangle wave on an oscillator. This has been taken from
the African brass patch. I' ve turned off every parameter I could find...all zeroed except the volume of Osc no1...no sub bass...etc. What Id like to know is why I can hear two notes from one oscillator?...This snippet is 1:30 secs long. I play a chord, followed by a few long notes during which I turn the volume up and down. If you listen carefully as the volume decreases, just before it totally dies away, you'll hear the second tone come in...as I increase the volume you'll hear the first tone start to dominate. This tone is the original pitch! Again, on tape you have to really concentrate. However, live with some reverb accentuating the end of the note, you don't!
Any final suggestions, apart from telling me to see a doctor!
regards
Niven.

Hi aron..
I literally just finished sending my version of a triangle wave as you posted yours!
Ive just listened to yours and it sounds nothing like mine.....yours definately does not rise at all!
Thanks for posting....somehow I think my prob has upset you a little.
I also think its time to end it. But its not solved as your example clearly shows. You've been helpful. I now will definately make may way to a technician Wednesday...but they want to keep my keyboard for at least 4-6 weeks!
You sound like you need that drink I offered.

Just use my programs - which BTW are from initialized programs - not cleared out user programs.
Load my programs on your machine - if it doesn't rise, your machine is fine. Please try it since I did this work for you.
My bet is that you also hear the pitch change in my samples and programs.
Then go see the doctor!

Hi aron,
I forgot to fully thank you for putting yourself out to make that file for me...
Of course I'll use it and unfortunately if it works then it doesnt really solve the problem, because it will just prove that the oscillator is working correctly.
Therefore something else has gone adrift! Showing me the tuner working perfectly on your sound proves your sound is ok..obviously.
But I think this matter is over now....

niven.
ps there's still a drink waiting for you!

Finally.....no opinions really needed. Simple triangle wave....with and without
reverb. The reverb simple exists to catch the tuning at the very end of the note. Thus highlighting my problem. This anomaly is multiplied by adding more oscillators and notes...
Phoning the technician straight after this.

I honestly believe that's just the tuner losing the note fix and responding to noise. You seem to think it's proof of your Kronos bending upwards but the tuner actually shows it's "fixing" more than two octaves downward (B0 as opposed to A3). In other words, noise. Tuners do this all the time when notes fade out. I loaded the audio of the first movie in my DAW and confirmed that the fundamental stays the exact same pitch all the way throughout the reverb tail, insofar as it can be heard until the reverb becomes saturated.
But you don't have to take my word for it, I hope you get it your Kronos operating the way you want it to. Good luck with the tediousness of getting it fixed, it's never nice when you have to bring a board in for repair and miss it for a few weeks.

Aron - stop wasting your energy/time. I don't think he wants any result that doesn't tally with what he's already decided. I live in London and already offered the option of taking around one of my Kronos to try in his room and he wasn't interested.
I've held off commenting more as I could see how it's been panning out - but really I don't think he's interested in any resolution that doesn't agree with his own original diagnosis of the problem.
