Electribe EM-1 fried sot23-5 IC6
Hi,first of all i want to say hello to all of the korg maniacs...
Please forgive me my english, but thats not my native language.
I've got an Korg Electribe EM-1 with fried IC6(the type/number is unreadable),can someone tell me what kind of voltage regulator is it?

Not looking at the schematic, But I'd say most likely not to replacing with a 7805, at least not without heavy modification. FET is used in a switching supply. 7805 is a linear regulator. it would not be a DROP IN replacement.dolby* wrote:Thank you.
Is there a more common replacement for that FET,or can i modify the power section to use an e.g 7805 ??
check ebay, all kind of parts from china there....
Korg gear I own:
electribes EA-1,ER-1,2x ES-1, EMX-1SD, ESX-1SD
DW 8000, Wavestation SR, KP3, Volca Beats, Keys MS 2000 R
Korg gear I've used extensively:
M1, Triton Pro-x 88, SG-1D, NanoPad, NanoKontrol

Also be sure that it's a 5v line and not a 3.3V linevoip wrote:A 7805 could be used, with suitable circuit modifications, provided it is mounted on an adequate heatsink. Consider also that using one would increase the load on the external power supply, because the original FET is being used as part of a switched mode regulator.

Sorry I don't own one....
But there's a service manual with schematic here
http://bmamps.com/Schematics/Korg/Korg_ ... Manual.pdf
They're actually using a 7805 for the analog 5V, but only 100 mA, so it's not going to get too hot at that current. The digital section looks good for an Amp so if you used a 7805 it would run warm even with a heat sink, if there's room for a heat sink....and there's no airflow in there either. I'd try to find a suitable replacement felt.

The two are pin compatible with most lay similar ratings, but not identical. I'm not skilled enough with SMPS to say wether the differences would matter. I can find the original part on eBay, why not just try that? Otherwise, I'd be willing to try the substitute, it can't be that expensive.
