EA-1
Hi,
This is my first time posting on this forum, so hello to all. I'm interesting in picking up an EA-1 modelling synth, but I haven't been able to find out a great deal about it. Does anyone use one? Like / dislike it? What is the difference between it and the EA-1 mk ii?
Any information would be helpful.

Check this first and compare on the site

Reading the specs it kind of feels like a 303 clone
but the electribe version,
It's monophonic so u can't do amazing chords with it...
it's good for Leads and bass probably
I almost got one but then i was like not another mono synth
Hope u can get the most out of it

IIRC the only change was oscillator Xmod on the MKII. I owned the EA-1 since it came out. I don't use it much anymore, it is limited, no LFO for instance, No ADSR, but it is usefull, as said above, basses and leads, and as also mentioned good to sequence other monosynths. I wouldn't pay much more than $100 US for one, maybe 150 if it was MINT. For a wile my setup was EA-1 and ES-1, which was certainly a very fun time.sl23 wrote:I bought an EA-1 not long after their release.
It was my introduction to 'analogue' synthesis.
It is a very basic synth, but, as with the ER-1, when you perform on it while it plays you can get some interesting effects.
Personally, I love the sound it makes, though limited, it's a great little box and a worthy purchase if you like it's sound.
I never bought the newer MKII model, so can't give any feedback on that, but it's supposed to give more variety in the types of sound it can produce.
Knowing Korg though, this is probably more bullshit hype, just like when they stated that the EA-1 (maybe it was the ER-1) can produce unlimited sounds!
Korg gear I own:
electribes EA-1,ER-1,2x ES-1, EMX-1SD, ESX-1SD
DW 8000, Wavestation SR, KP3, Volca Beats, Keys MS 2000 R
Korg gear I've used extensively:
M1, Triton Pro-x 88, SG-1D, NanoPad, NanoKontrol

DW 8000, Wavestation SR, KP3, Volca Beats, Keys MS 2000 R

Thanks all, for your responses. I think I probably will pick up an EA-1 when I get the chance.
This actually addresses most of my concerns.thesigma wrote: IIRC the only change was oscillator Xmod on the MKII. I owned the EA-1 since it came out. I was hoping that this would be the case. I like the idea of coming up with ideas with this on the couch, and later on using MIDI out to use it to control different synths.roblabs wrote: As a sequencer for other gear, its absolutely fantastic.
I also used a 9.6V battery pack for RC cars to power my original electribes, Just Velcro it to the bottom. It would run one for hours and hours, two obviously less but it did work. It wasn't something I ever really used a lot though, but some people just seem to think everything should be battery powered and portable these days....

this thing made me learn how to create a kick , just with a waveform , envelop generator, cuttof , resonace , and decay .
acctuly now im able to create kicks from any sound from any synth, groovebox with these functions .
kicks are not stereo and if they are then they sound horrible in loud situations.
bought it in bad shape , wrong adapter ,buttons not working, sequencer made the thing stop , and a baaad humm on the outputs.
cleaned it up inside out. connected a 9v 2A adaptor. works like new. no humm.
what i found inside was spectaculair , sand , sticky dust, dryd up soda , sugar, rotten pot, twig, pube hair, and millions of dead bacteria on the rubber buttons.
