Price of the Kronos

Is it me or has the price of the Kronos 2 shot up over the last week or so.

I was thinking of going for the Platinum model as it was around £3029, but it has shot up to £3330 on average in the UK.



Whilst I am here, does anybody own the Platinum model and has the quality of the keybed improved from the first Kronos models back in 2011/12?

You could ask your dealer/retailer, why the price rise. It might be connected to Korg Japan, the MSRP and your disti.

Or it could be simply your dealer, trying to make a little more profit.

The keybed issues are ancient history.

The price jump may be related to differences in exchange rates between England and the rest of the world related to Brexit. OR it may be related to differences in perceptions of future exchange rate differences between England and the rest of the world related to Brexit. OR it could be someone getting greedy. OR it could be faulty memory. OR it could be due to increased demand from other purchasers.

I recently purchased the Kronons2 88 in black rather than Platinum. I don't think there's a functional difference, but I thought black was sexier. (There may be a difference in reading the labels under stage lighting, but I didn't think about that when I purchased it. Sexy trumped visibility.) Since I didn't own an earlier one, I can't comment about the keybed.

Remember Brexit all? As we left the EU, the value of the pound tumbled and as these instruments are all imported, the price has been pushed up extensiby. The Kronos and indeed Montage have both gone up from around £3k to £3300 which is a direct result of the fall in exchange rate. Even the Integra has gone from around £1099 to around £1260.

If might flatten out, it might not.

Here in Canada, the price of the Kronos have slightly gone down at the beginning of july...

From 5199$CDN to 4999$CDN for the 88 keys.

Not sure whats going on but this makes me happy with mine showing
K2-88 $3144.99 on the receipt. US dollars back in March.
I bought a bundle though which i think possibly got me a discount. I probably paid full price on the synth stand, portable piano bench, 88 key case, cables, headphones and foot pedals.

I managed to get the K2 Platinum edition for £2900 with a stand so that's over £400 off the usual price, so happy now.

Problem is that I missed my Oasys too much after selling it, but needed an upgrade anyway!!

We haven't quite left the EU yet - Still 2 or 3 years before that officially happens.

Meanwhile, because of the terrible UK exchange rates, we can expect the price of foreign goods to increase even further. On the positive side, some retailers are desperate to shift stock (because of the uncertainty, no one's buying anything!), so there ARE some good deals to be had out there.

No one goes outside in August. I went to a political rally a few years ago in my home town in July. I learned an important lesson; don't go to outdoor political rallies in the summer. Ever.

The Renaissance Festivals in Florida are in batches. First, there are three in November. Second, there's a new one in December. Finally, there are two from February to April. As for Scottish festivals, the closest is in January.

Needless to say, I won't be trying for gigs on the Kronos at either type of event. I've played in a duo at the New York Renaissance Festival a long time ago. I played clavichord and my wife played harp. A fun gig, which I may try again. But not in August. In Florida.

I recall that humidity in July /Aug. We would go out in the early am, then stay in for the day. It can also get hot here in the valley area of No. California. Once we have 100 degree days its no going out in the afternoons. We don't have the humidity like FL but 100 degrees is not comfortable.

Yeah the day after the Brexit vote the pound went nuts on the currency markets. Almost immediately everything on Thomann got more expensive for UK buyers i used to use it to get slightly cheaper gear

Whilst not good news for us synth buyers in the UK, the pound is about where it should be....
