Running an acoustic guitar through the Kronos
I have an ovation acoustic/electric guitar which I would like to run through the Kronos and use the Kronos effects. Anyone out there have a good tutorial or video to explain how to do this. I've googled and done the Youtube thing, but there doesn't seem to be much out there. Any help would be appreciated.
Plug it into one of the two dedicated audio inputs in the back. The 2 Line-in with the sound control right on the rear panel next to the line-in inserts.
If you have sound level issues, you may want to plug the guitar into some kind of signal processor and send that into kronos line-in's. Not sure whats safe to use but just plug your guitar directly into kronos line-in first. If you have sound issues after trying it direct to line in, check out this thread.

Since it is running in as audio, you want to go to Sampling mode or to sample set up in song, combi or program mode.
In sampling you can go to the "Audio input" panel and set the input "Bus select" to an IFX and then work out fx selections in the IFX tab page for "insert effects"..
In Seq, Combi or program mode for sampling access. The "Audio Input" panel is blurred out of access when the "Use Global setting" box is selected. You can go to global to set up your "Bus select" to an IFX per input and use that globally, or you can deselect "use global setting" for the Audio input panel within the various modes and set up audio input in the various modes.
I keep Global setup with all bus set to "off" and then keep the various modes set to global audio input settings. Then i use the drop down menu to select "auto sampling setup" and then go to the bottom half of the screen to "sampling setup" area to select "Source bus" as audio input 1/2 or L/R for resampling.
Sampling mode does not use Global setting and does not show the Audio Input panel on the main screen like the other modes do. You have to go to the lower tab selections of sampling mode to find "Audio Input" tab to open to the Audio input page to set up IFX to your desired input 1or2.
I have been using Sampling mode the past few days to sample my favorite songs from the 1970's, 80's and 90's and keeping them as wave files for my private listening collection. I also wave file them in an app on my iPad to listen to on the go. Then between two apps, Dropbox takes them as the kronos wave files they are, then the other app imports them from Dropbox and automatically saves them as Mp3 files. Then i can play them anytime in the apps like a music player.
The great thing is i can sample them off of youtube using effects and EQ in effects, and have them sounding the way i like.
I never knew how bad one favorite song sounded right off the album, one i love from the 1990's. Never knew how bad it sounded in original form until i sampled it onto kronos with kronos effects + EQ. I toggled between my effects setup and back to straight orginal album streaming with no effects ~and i was amazed at how much Kronos improved the sound without distorting the clarity of the original sound.
A little EQ and bright room fx made a 90's dull box sounding song sound so clear and sharp and then ready for some chorus and O-verb which would not work right without the eq and bright room effect to clear up and open up the sound.
You will have to work out the input sound levels from the rear panel adjustment knobs and mic/line-in switch. I actually use the rear controls together with the onscreen line level meter+adjustment slider.
I set the onscreen level slider to 0.0 and then I set the rear knobs to within 80% towards clip and then use the onscreen slider adjust to turn up any further. Some sounds are way too loud coming in and i set the rear knobs to very low and use the onscreen sliders to bring the sound up.
I make no claim to expertise at what levels work. It changes with every sound source i bring to input. I never plug in Guitars myself but i plug in songs full of acoustic and electric guitar and anything else on the albums.
The line-in /mic switch helps with manageing sounds that come in as very weak signals or very strong signals.
I use both line 1 and 2 together for a split stereo signal when bringing in songs off of youtube. Guitar would be one line at a time or run the guitar into a mixer and send the mixer left/right out into the kronos 1 & 2 inputs and then each input can take a different set of effects/EQ to turn a mono guitar signal into a sort of stereo spread if you use the mixer in between. Or a splitter cable would do. If you work LFO or other AMS into FX modulation, you can get some dynamic stereo and FX auto panning simulations out of splitting a single mono line out from a guitar. The top right screen drop down menu lets you select to change between Stereo sample and Mono.

The Last comment on this thread at the time i posted this, "RonF" mentions some useful info about using effects setups from Combis and Programs.
Also within an effect edit page, you can save edits as seperate presets for a collection of various customizations of any given effect.
If you go to a guitar program with effects you like, you can route the "Audio input" Bus Select to an IFX used in the program and any others used by the program will be chain linked. So you end up playing your guitar through the same effects used by the program you select.
Just go to sampling "audio input" page and route your used audio input/s to an IFX used in the program.
Combi mode would be the same but with some slight complications where the various effects may not be all chained linked together in every combi, so you will have to sort out which chained group to use. They would chain in groups per timbre that they are intended for. The timbre issue does not apply in program mode.

At 00:50 he is in the Audio Input page and starting to set input 1 from off to L/R. L/R gave him sound through. The same place where he chose L/R is the same place you will find the option to choose IFX 1 through 12.
Thats all you need to do to get your line-in to stream through IFX.
Of course you will need to go to IFX page to turn on IFX and Insert FX that you want.
**This link below shows a guitar with an "active pickup" being plugged in directly and played through Kronos but does not go into IFX ***
