Can't wait to hear this played on the new ARP Odyssey iPAD IOS

Synth Wars - The Rise of the ARP 2600, OBX8 Kenobi - The Return of the Synth, MoogClaraVox, Criklon V2, in living color, Moog Model D, Neuman U67, 1961 Hammond C3 Brother of B , PS3300, to Poly Infinity and Beyond !!!
Have spent an hour with the Odyssei: that's a pure fun thing, and on my 12' iPadPro it delivers quite good programming overview.
Not quite a real Arp sound (which I wouldn't expect from such a nice little app anyways), but at least a bit reminiscent sounding. It's a good sounding synth in it's own way, still reminding of the Oddy, it's polyphonic (!), and with all the Oddy fun functionality and many well useable presets on board (especially some incredibly musical pads!).
Cool move!

Hey Greg and Akos - apologies for any hard hitting on your posts. Just frustration with bloody minikeys again.
The 'synth' part of monologue is lovely - I just find it very frustrating that Korg are only releasing minikey synths in the past two years.
What happened to a range of synths in different lenght keyboards - or - even take Roland's Boutique lead and give the module and the keyboard as separate options.
I accept Greg Korg have updated Kronos well; but Korg at the best can be a lot better than a 2 octave minikey monosynth, and that's my 'beef'.

Hi, KevinKevin Nolan wrote:Akos Janca wrote:Let me share my opinion. I don’t find these news so disappointing.
Yes, it would have been nice to see a new poly analogue (in the style of Polysix, Mono/Poly, with normal keys, aftertouch etc.) – maybe next time.
Korg’s decisions are based on many factors. Let us welcome the newborn babies in the family! Monologue is a nice and clever little thing. ODYSSEi looks promising and beautiful. I’m very glad to see KingKorg is not ‘abandoned’.
I think the above is 100% true. Why should we complain? We have too much instruments already. Do we really need one more? For example, right now I have my KingKorg turned on in front of me – and I am searching for new synths on the internet, instead of using it better, on a higher level?jimknopf wrote:The only teaser I would really mind nowadays, would probably be a daily one reminding me of practising, playing, song writing and recording, and of making more use of the wealth of possibilities I already have in direct reach!
so you're saying these releases are acceptable? To whom? do you expect keyboard players to be content with a 2 octave minikeyboard. and are you saying there is no more innvation to happen in synthesizers, for ever more - even into the far future? Really- we're done with new stuff? Because that's how you post reads. And, are you saying that new musicians have to tolerate this stuff while we use Jupiter 8's and OASYS? You're happy to kick new musicians in the teeth with this junk while you enjoy the higher standards and expectations of the past?
I don't mean to be controversial, but how are these worse than the Reface products that, from memory, you were quite enthusiastic about? Mini keys for me are a big turn off, but that is true for both Yamaha and Korg.
The Odyssey on an ipad is interesting as my preference for portability is iPad (or tablet) based synths along with a USB keyboard, but I already have the GEForce Oddity.

Derek -
Read over my posts on the Reface - I agree, always, that minikeys are annoying. At the time I argued:
1. Yamaha were re-entering the synth market for the first time in 2 decades so appealing to all to give them the benefit of the doubt - for now - predicated on them delivering other synths than Reface - as in - the same arguement as here; i.e., these are fine for what they are, but in my opinion should not be the be all and end all. For example the CS01 is not a fundamental problem to me because there were also the other CS synths. So - firstly. giving Reface the benefit of the doubt
2. There is innovation in Reface CS and DX (admittedly we can debate that - but you're asking about my consistency of argument here and I'm telling you, genuinely, I think Reface CS in particular is a very novel 'take' on analogue synthesis - again - accept others might not agree)
3. Yamaha delivered on the other part of it with Montage - that is - while not particularly a 'range' and I'd love to see a Reface series with full sized keys, at least Yamaha have driven major innovation forward, now, with Montage. You might not like it, but it has a plethora of developments through performances, motion sequencing and so forth.
4. Again - if you look over many of my posts, still, Reface with minikeys is unacceptable to me (and I still haven't bought any even though I'd love all 4 of them for what they could deliver with a full sized keyboard).
So I do believe Derek I'm consistent in my argument - and let's not make this into a personal thing here we've been down that route.
Overall, thinking about it today, I think it's undeniable that the minikeys think is a particularly Japanese fetish. It is only the Japanese synth companies putting them out - and they seem obsessed with them. I'm confident that Korg R&D in the US are beside themselves with annoyance with minikeys - during the release of Reface you could see the US demonstrators cringing with them - and the same with KARP Odyssey - any demo by a US or European musician always 'qualified' the keys.
So it's a Japanese thing. There's clearly some quirky little fietish going on over there that they can't let up on - probably to do with size, cuteness, Anime or whatever; because it's only Yamaha, Roland and Yamaha releasing minikesy - no other company at all.
Even here Derek - if this synth was on a 3.5 Octave keyboard with mod wheel and pitch bend wheel I'm telling you it would have hit the headlines in a totally different way today - but ultimately all synthesists and keyboard players will qualify their judgment of it because of its pathetic 'form' and like Boutique and Reface, these things will be worth nothing on eBay in a year or two and we'll all look back on this with as much embarrassment as we look bak on flaired trousers from the '70s. The Japanese need to release a full sized keyboard version of their synths for the rest of the world.
But finally Derek, there's no other innovation going on in Korg today. You can see it - it's all little s**t they're putting out. However successful the attempts - at least Roland and Yamaha are attempting to push towards the future too with at least part fo their range - but in my opinion something happened in Korg about 6-7 years ago and a decision was made to jettison their strategy toward more profitable dance / DJ junk - and all the crap we're seeing today is the result. It's pathetic.
To me, Korg are now like Casio but without their innovation!!

Now if Korg would only port this into the Kronos as an additional Engine,That would be the icing on the cake.

Rumours are that a Kronos OS update is imminent. I'm not sure what else Korg can add, other than new engines, which I'd be more than willing to pay for (I think we can all agree that the sequencer isn't going to get a makeover). The original Kronos and X had a stream of great updates, but nothing really since the K2 came out - I'm keeping my fingers crossed.John01W wrote:YES, THAT would be awesome!bladuck wrote:Great suggestionKontrol49 wrote:The Oddysey IOS app is awesome![]()

I'm glad they bring out this cap for dj's...let them sell millions and re invest that money in
high end synths.
