Unique Connection For Church

Post by fjs714 »

Hi Fellas,
I used to be able to plug my Kronos and Pa4x into my churches PA using two 1/4 cables with a Y adapter. The system had only one 1/4 Input.
Well, they eliminated that 1/4 input. Now they just have 4 XLR mic inputs. So I'm forced to use that. However I can't find any cable that have (2) 1/4 inch on one end and XLR (Male) on the other.
Do you know of any?
Thanks Frank

You can use a DI box to covert a line level signal to mic level.

Keyboard (line level) -------> DI Box ---------> XLR mic input

Hi
Thanks for your response. Went on line and saw a Radial Pro D2 box. It's a Passive box that allows me to use both 1/4 inch outputs from either my Kronos or Pa4x. This way I can have my stereo sound. They're listed for about $140.
Does anyone have any other stereo DI box Models?
Thanks frank

Sometimes is cheaper to buy 2 single DI-box instead 1 Stereo.
They are use most for Mic or guitars which is single input.
New keyboards, mixers or other processors used balanced connection, where DI- box in useless.
That's why is more option with single.
You can't find XLR Y-cable, because XLR is mono, means is not making sense use hard connection mono --> 2 mono.
Maybe in your case is better to invest in small mixer?
Or if you got 4 XLR inputs use : Kronos out (2 cables) to Pa4x input, Pa4x output to system via 2 cable XLR-1/4 (balanced), then you still got 2 free for Mic.
Or connect Kronos and Pa4x to system (2x2) and use Pa4x input for mic.

A DI box will convert your "unbalanced" line level signal to mic level "balanced" signal. This way you'll be able to connect a 1/4'' unbalanced output to a XLR balanced input. The question is though how many of those XLR inputs are available for your set up? Also, for this purpose you don't really need to get a fancy one. They're some cheap ones that work just as well for this type of set up.

Sam, I think fjs714 was mention in first post he got now 4 XLR, not sure how many he can use.
Kronos and Pa4x can use balanced Cables, means I don't think DI-box is necessary.
Cables type TRS to XLR will works, unless he got only 1 input available, then only mixer can fix.
Before he has 1/4 TRS input and was using 2 Y-cable (Insert) TRS to Dual TS connected to mono outputs Kronos & Pa4x (I think).
not sure, but maybe he need this kind of cables: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessor ... male-cable
or mixer with XLR out.

That Radial DI is a SWEEEEEEET pice of kit. I own one, and it's rock solid, dead quiet, and down right gorgeous. 100% effective for what you want.

Fellas,
You guys are terrific. You always come through.. Nemik, you were correct when you mentioned that I only have ONE XLR input into the church system. So putting two boxes together wouldn't help. That Radial is the way to go.
about the money,-----look at all the cash we've all been spending on our equipment. I guess a little more won't hurt----much.

So, You need connect Pa4x and Kronos to single XLR, no mic ?
Radial ProD2 has passive DI features two independent channels with separate inputs, means is works like 2 single DI box (not 100% sure).
I saw Radial has many kind boxes, you need to talk to their specialist for advice which one will works for you best.
I'm sure they find solution.

or You can try use this connection:
Kronos out --> Pa4x in double TRS balanced cable
Pa4x out (mono) --> system In TRS to XLR cable

You'll be happy with what you ordered. It's a great piece of gear.
