Thanks for all the advice. I have some research to do now.

I noticed that no one recommended the Roland Fantom.

If I were shopping for a sub-$1000 main gigging board with aftertouch, I would seriously consider a Fantom X6 (just got an Integra 7, so most of my Roland needs are met). Here's a few on ebay as of 11/23/16 that are in the $500-900 range.

I had the lower end Fantom Xa for awhile and really loved it. It had some great sounds, the constantly running phrase recorder that let you go back and capture that last 30 seconds of that great riff you just did (Skip Back Sampling). I found the sequencer pretty intuitive. The pianos are not solo grand quality, but workable enough for gigs. The pads can be put to great use (polyphonic aftertouch!). Anyway, here's a good SoundonSound review:

How could I forget the Kurzweil pc3 series or even the Kurzweil K2661!
These synths are often VASTLY underrated by people who have never lived with one
Korg Nautilus 61 AT, Kurzweil Forte 7
....as we forgive those who synthesize against us!!
