Advice please

Post by Omnisphere »

My Kronos x has been packed away for almost two years due to other priorities.
I successfully upgraded it to v3.04, when playing all sounds there seems to be a doppler, rotary effect on all sounds and i just can`t get rid of it.

All suggestions on how to get rid of this "effect" would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

did that ' effect' exist before the 3.0.4 ? and did you play your Kronos just before the upgrade ?

does it sound exactly like the Kronos rotary speaker FX or is it a phase artificial sound ?

did you eliminate your audio/spealers/amp as the problem or produce the ' effect' wearing headphones to your Kronos ?

Hi Greg,

I set it up again, hit a few notes & then updated the o/s, i did not notice the rotary effect before the o/s update but i could be wrong.

It`s definitely not an "artificial sound", more like chorus or rotary.

Yes, i am using headphones.

I`m sure it is me that is missing a setting but it is a long time since i used the Kronos and i`m blind so i would welcome your advice on how to check the rotary speaker is not causing the problem. Can the rotary effect be set globally?

Thanks

Additional: I have installed the Korg supplied editor, by magnifying the screen by 1000% i can see it using my peripheral vision on a very large pc monitor, i cant see the Kronos screen or buttons but i will be able to follow your instructions using the editor.

I don't know exactly.

Press your Kronos Joystick up or down to see if that turns off rotary. Could be a simple pedal setting you have pointing to the Joystick.

Also, under Global/Basic I do see some check boxes for "Effect Global SW"

Mine are not checked so I am not sure how they play out.

Look into that on your Kronos.

Then go to the German Grand program, Ctrl view effect Tab.
See what effect is in the ' on ' position

Sorry for the delay in responding but the forum went down.

The joystick was the first thing i tried.
I checked the insert effects on the German piano and the active effects were, parametric eq, chorus and reverb, i deactivated all three but it did not make a difference.
I assume you are looking at the Kronos, when i tried to find the Global fx settings you refer to, they were not on the editor.

Many thanks for responding, i will continue to try to resolve the problem, if i find out what it is, i will let you know.

I'm wondering if MIDI is the issue - Sometimes I've found that midi will trigger internally AND externally which causes audible phasing. You might have turned that off at some point and the update reset it back to normal.

Try disconnecting the MIDI cables and see if it still sounds the same.

Also, does it do the same thing via headphones as well?

Could it be that your headphones are not inserted fully or are faulty? The effect you're describing sounds like what happens when only the right output is going through.

Hello Dave, it`s good to hear from you again, it`s been a while.

Good idea re: midi, i use USB for midi but i will try disconnecting it.
I almost always play into headphones.

I am considering reloading from the original discs, it may end up to be the most efficient way of resolving the problem.

The editor helps me but it doesn`t seem to have as much information as the Kronos e.g. i could not find the Global page with the fx that Greg advised earlier in this thread.

I will continue to try to resolve the problem, i have found that dogged determination usually pays off with the Kronos.

Thanks for joining the fray, you clever patch programmer.

I googled ad found this post on the " effect Global SW "
https://www.karma-lab.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19808

It might muddy the research but therein lies a hint- mess with your sliders
to see if that makes the rotary FX go away

Hi Greg,

You were absolutely right, i missed the Global audio page, the input fx had the chorus switched on.
Many thanks for the guidance, it`s always appreciated, thanks also to Daveand Narf, where else could you get advice from the USA, Canada and Australia.
