Replacement PA4X and Freezing Problem Is Back (video)

Post by D575 »

Before i start...Apologies for the video being at the wrong angle when watching. So ....after having lots of problems with my 1st PA4X which had intermittent random freezing problems and after lots of frustration to get a replacement PA4X I now have the replacement PA4X with me I'm using OS 1.2.1 because OS 1.2.4 has been reported to have problems and as you can see and also here in the video I'm back to square one with major freezing problems tonight, this is now the 3rd time in the last few months this has happened to me 1st time over Christmas, 2nd time about 3 weeks ago and again tonight so time to speak up + the video so we can see and here this problem ...cheesed off is putting it politely! https://youtu.be/Zo6uzFfrRnw

I don't want this question to sound stupid but is your replacement PA4X actually a different one - i.e. a NEW one? Different serial number etc...?

Just a thought... :D

So were you using it straight out-of-the-box? i.e. No SETs or samples loaded.

Cheers

Pete :D

Hi Pete thanks for responding ....yes it's definitely a replacement unit, my self and an other forum member on here both had replacement PA4X from Korg UK after both having the similar problems last year, with the replacement unit i did reloaded my master copy from my USB stick which was saved and created from the first PA4X this comprised of some korg bonus styles and some user set that where the remanence of the PA3X performance banks minus the complete presets from PA3X because performance banks know longer exist so with some small rework on sounds that came from those performance banks because things like reverb, note velocity ensemble and so on and so forth as there were differences between the two keyboards (pa3x &pa4x) to make things sound correct to my ear the only other thing I may have to check is my dealer gave me a USB stick with a PA3X styles sounds etc when i purchased the PA4X which I believe was also created in the pa3x I'm only using a few of the sounds and styles from the dealers usb sick, so I think I need to understand better what I have from the dealers in the from of the usb stick, I did have dopamine set on board to see if there was anything useful and after the 2nd recent freezing episode much like last nights video I then decided to wipe off dopamine at that time some weeks ago and did a factory reset and went back to my pesonal master setting from my USB as describe above , since I received my replacement PA4X in the later part of last year i carried on from where I left off which consisted me playing most days for a few hrs and after some time lapsed with the PA4X in constance use most days before I started to experience this recent freezing (Lock up) episodes again with a lot more drama (just listen to the noise in the video its the same each time now) this is puzzling to me that this has now staring again after this time laps??.....I'm starting to wonder do I start from scratch (factory reset) forget any work from past and present make a mass of notes and start from within the box with out any previous work saved from usb sticks this I'm guessing this would eliminate any doubt??...if so boy what a load of work and so much for being told we could carry over are old work from the PA3X which incidentally did not miss a beat in the 3 + years that I had it ?.....

Just worth mentioning i was in style play mode amid playing when the first episode happen...lock up (freezing) much like in last nights video this was triggered when I hit the transpose button (up), then the second time it happened playing in style play mode again i hit one of the fill in buttons followed by the transpose button (up) and again same as the above video, then last nights episode which was recorded in the video above I had the ensemble page open and was changing some of the settings (experimenting) while I was playing and this triggered what we see (Lock up) in that video.....

Hi Simon
I would guess your old files that always worked should be fine but I am worried about this USB from the dealer you refer to.

Personally I would try and go through a process of elimination:-
1. Go back to factory only
2. Try it thoroughly and see if it freezes at all
3. Load your own SETs - i.e. everything fully known to you and used before etc
4. Try it again and see if it freezes etc...
5. Load up the retailer USB
6. Check it again.

I never trust SETs I do not know about - I find most dealers do not know much about the Korg arrangers too (I'm sure there are some exceptions) - not one dealer I know of in Australia knows these products other than very basic demoing.

I am playing sounds and styles from i-series, PA1X,PA2X,PA3X with no problems - but these are all fully known to me.
I know in the past, members have had some horrendous experiences with 3rd party data.

I may be wrong, but the retailer's USB stick is worrying me.
I am happy to try it on my PA4X if you wish.

Cheers

Pete :D

Thanks Pete sounds like a logical plan which I will start and follow just to be fair to my dealer although his memory stick may very well have a gremlin in there and hopefully this willl all make some sense soon, I do know (with out mentioning names) and can say he is one of the few dealers over here who has deep knowledge of PA4X and PA arrangers hens this time I travelled 4hrs to purchase the PA4X unlike my local large music store (20 min away) who would phone me up to demo the pa3x every time someone was interested as they had no clue or interest in arranger keyboards. Anyway thanks again for the support here I will have a chat with my dealer about the memory stick and follow your lead pete and given time will report back ....

Had a long conversation with my dealer today who reassures me that his memory stick from him has no 3rd party software and was created from the PA3X to help a lot of his costumers changing over from the PA3X to the PA4X, he also reassured me he did not think this would be the culprit with my problem i know he has a very good and close relationship with korg here in the UK hens the early preview we had of the PA4X with this dealer in association with korg and he is looked upon when having dealer training with korg for his deep knowledge with PA arrangers and specifically PA4X and many of his customer have had no problems with regard to the memory stick so I'm confidant he is guiding me correctly there....so back to basics and I will follow Petes advice here I will do a factory reset reinstall the operating system and spend a week or so solidly play as a standard factory keyboard and endeavour to see what happens and then progressively introduce some of my saved work that has only come from my old pa3x which has been tweaked in the pa4x and this will include some new work created inside the PA4X .....to be continued......
