Re: anyone know of M1 voices/banks converted to Kronos forma
There was a guy here for a short time selling them. He wasn't an authorized vendor, so he left. I saw him on eBay, and he was selling the sounds as sound fonts. I bought them and are very happy with them.Sonic Bodhi wrote:Does anyone know if someone has converted M1 banks/voices to Kronos format?
only thing is, it didn't have the "Tube" sample, which I needed, because I can use it for Genesis' "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight," so I asked him about it, and he added it to mine.
If you want that, you have to ask for it separately.
Unfortunately, I suffer from CRS, so I can't remember his name- you'll have to search for him.

Joe Gerardi, ha ha, I also suffer from crs syndrome! Actually, the soundfont idea sounds good, since I do have M1 soundfonts which I use with my FL Studio daw. I did read in the manual that you can import soundfonts into the Kronos so maybe I'll try that. Thanks!
Oh, do you know if the soundfonts he is selling use high quality samples? I'm assuming they do, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Kind of hard to answer: the sampling he used is pretty high quality, but the original M1 samples were not because of the year they were sampled, so it's hard to tell, actually. I just never noticed anything I didn't like, and I had an M1 for years. (Well, I still have 2, actually, but one is an M1 Garand, and the other is an M1 Carbine!)Sonic Bodhi wrote:Oh, do you know if the soundfonts he is selling use high quality samples? Wow.. I've tried to get an M1 over the years, but the models I looked at only had 61 keys and waterfall keybed, not the 88-key weighted models I demoed in the music store. So what's the difference between your models?Joe Gerardi wrote:Kind of hard to answer: the sampling he used is pretty high quality, but the original M1 samples were not because of the year they were sampled, so it's hard to tell, actually. Just throwing this out there, but Korg has a Legacy Collection that has not only the M1 (with filters this time), but ALL the cards that came out for it included. It's only $50 or you can do like I did and get the whole package (MS-20, Polysix, Mono/Poly, M1, and one of my favorites - the Wavestation). Incredible value and everyone I've talked to that has them swears to their authenticity. Plus, you don't have to worry about them a) taking up space, and b) needing repair or maintenance. Win-Win in my book! Good luck!
PS - Korg also has an iM1 for the iPad and iPhone if you have one. It not only includes all the same add-on cards as above but also includes the T series sounds as well! Just thought I'd toss that in there too.

Brad:
Does that collection have ALL the M1 sounds and samples in it?
I'd love screwing around with the Wavestation. I've really gotten into Wavetable synthesis since I got my Kawai K1 II.
Thanks,
..Joe

I concur. The only concern with the Legacy Pack is Korg's ongoing support for it. It still runs on my Windows 10 though.
I did find (on this forum) a thread where all the Wavestation factory voices have been ported to Kronos and they sounded identical to my Legacy Wavestation. So worth looking out for.

My bad!
This is a VST? Never mind. Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.
..Joe
PS: just looked- the price is $150, not $50.00.

I've had Korg Legacy collection for a number of years, and while, yes, it does have all the voices the roms and the expansion cards, I'm just finding myself in a place where I want everything available from my synth workstation without always having to involve firing up a p.c. It's nice for a change to record directly to the Tascam, and not have to open up first the p.c. and then the d.a.w., but then have to add whichever Korg VSTi I want to use after that.midinut wrote:Just throwing this out there, but Korg has a Legacy Collection that has not only the M1 (with filters this time), but ALL the cards that came out for it included. I did notice right off the bat, there is a WAVESTATION voice in one of the first few banks, cause I ran into that right away when first demoing the machine after I got it.
At $29.99, I may download the iM1 at some point, but that's not in the cards right now. I'm going to first try to import the M1 soundfont files I already have and see how that turns out. I'm about to jump into learning how to sample on this thing, anyway.

This 100%!! If I was a "producer" by trade then fire up the PC, but as a keyboardist, I enjoy making a connection with my instrument without needing to grab a mouse and reference a nearby laptop. Call me old school I guess.Sonic Bodhi wrote:I'm just finding myself in a place where I want everything available from my synth workstation without always having to involve firing up a p.c.
As for the M1 patches, it's a shame that Korg supported the Krome with this package, but hasn't provided a similar patch bank for the Kronos.

Because then I'm saddled with hooking up a laptop, dealing with latency, and become less a player, computer and power issues if I'm ever using it live, and am more a computer tech then a musician. That's not for me: I'm a computer engineer by trade, and I try not to let computerization interfere - and I truly think it DOES interfere - with making music.Derek Cook wrote:Just curious why not? In the 23 years I was out playing gigs, I only once used a sequencer - I mean for one song. If I couldn't play it, we didn't do it. Granted, I started out in the mid '70's playing Gabriel- and early Collins-era Genesis, Yes, and ELP, so I was used to being busy, but by the '90's I still insisted playing every part.
The one I did use was a pulsing rhythm underneath, so I didn't mind that one- it was the drummer who needed to say in time to it. But I feel there's too much automation in music today, and not enough pressing on the keys, so I still avoid any of that stuff like the plague: my DAW (Sonar) is my recording studio, not a crutch for lack of playing skills.
Just part of the cranky old bastard syndrome, I guess...
And while we're at it, stay the hell off my lawn!!!
