iPad + Kronos another cool trick

Post by amit »

There was a discussion few days back about using iPad as remote desktop with duet display / teamviewer / rdp/ vnc.

Here is another trick/task that works when you don't want to be sitting down/bending down at kronos but rather be at the couch or otherwise.

Requirements:
TeamViewer
rtpMidi (windows needed for net midi, mac I think it's built in)
midiBridge and netMidi apps on iPad.
Kronos editor installed on your computer and kronos connected to your computer.
usb/lightning cable for ipad
some mid controller keyboard
usb hub (optional, but I use one to power my midi controllers with iPad)

basically you set up rtp midi on computer and then in netmidi app activate that port.
using midi bridge you connect you midi controller input to net midi.

you can use teamviewer or other remote app to view your computer screen and interact with it, lke programming new sounds, editing wave sequences.
The only limits being the limits of Kronos editor.

(btw, if you own KARMA Software this also works with that.)
and there are a lot of other things that can be done, I leave that to your imagination.

You might want to have a look here:

https://itunes.apple.com/de/app/kronos- ... 34677?mt=8

It doesn't let you do everything from the couch, but you can do a lot without 'bending over the Kronos' and be more comfortable while editing.

...I don't mean to spam with ads, it just fits the question perfectly ;)

Along with what gregc question, does it give you editors especially for waveseq, drum kits. And synth engines like mod7 and al-1?

Currently not, it's focused on live situations so the setlist mode offers extended editing capabilities, .pdf sheet display, .mp3 integration and so on... here's where you get the highest benefit from the app I'd say.

Combi and Sequencer mode offer several menu pages that support editing in combination with the Kronos screen and should make live easier. This is pretty cool because it allows to work on different menu pages simultaneously.

Program mode currently only allows to select presets- it's technically not such a big deal to implement menu pages, but it's a huge amount of different pages and graphics that would need to get built and implemented. So there will be editing in program mode some day, but not now. I'm actually thinking about a piano roll editor as the next step, but this is also a complex feature in terms of user interface (it's almost a standalone app).

Do it!!!! Lol - even standalone, this feature is extremely handy as I've become accustomed to drawing chords in and fattening them up this way - far simpler than looped recoding; same for melodies, I've 'drawn' far more complex melodies than I can get from looping. It's especially useful in drawing strums as well, and for placement of background sound with lots of echo and reverb - in fact the piano-roll is the next best thing to having sheet music for those of us who can't read it and 'hear' the notes in our heads in perfect time - in fact I'm on a 1/16 time sig (1 note in 16 bars) trying to read sheet music.

Thanks,
That was my understanding too that its mainly for live players.
I only use kronos in my home setup/studio, so as of now Id have to wait I presume.
