Midi channel output in combis (w/ karma)

Post by Jknowlton1 »

So i am attempting to make a combi with multiple timbres in it that i can switch between with karm scenes. From what ive tried to learn i do the following (in the example timbres 1&2 are paired as are 3&4):

Assign the instruments i want to timbres 1-4
Assign the MIDI channels to the groups id like paired (ex. Timbres 1&2 are assigned to midi channel 2 and timbres 3&4 are assigned to midi channel 3)
--i should note that at this point all 4 timbres are unmuted on the mixer screen--
Enter the karma menu-->ge setup/key zones menu
Turn off run
Under the MIDI I/O section assign group - an output channel of 2 and group be an output channel of 3 (input channels of both are global)
Enter perf rtp menu
Select group 1 as a key zone with box checked for group A and assigned to switch 1
Select group 2 as a key zone with box checked for group B and assigned to switch 2

From my understanding with karma turned on and rt knobs/karma selected under the control assign switches then pressing karma scene 1 should allow me to hear timbres 1&2 while pressing karma scene 2 should allow me to hear timbres 3&4 instead.

My question is essentially two fold:

Is the above correct?

And why when i have a timbre set to a midi channel of 2 or 3 etc do i not hear the timbre at all?

Here is a video showing what you are describing.

If the video does not cover the "thru" options, then look on your GE setup page and the Midi I/O section where you select output channel per Karma module.
There are options for "thru" or thru in zone in the GE setup section.
This means your sound comes through as you play the keys with your fingers, otherwise only the GE "run" will be the only sound coming through your timbre. Karma has the option to turn off your finger-to-key/note output as well as separately turn off GE to note output.
You turned off "GE run", check to see that you have "thru" set to let your key notes to come through.
